Inspirada en hechos reales acerca del segundo escape de Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, uno de los narcos más controvertidos de la historia reciente. Amado y odiado, héroe del pueblo, enemigo de la ley, “El Chapo” logró conmocionar a la opinión pública después de su espectacular escape, del que se cuestionó si se trataba de un tarea maestra de su propio cártel o si fue posible gracias a la complicidad desde las altas esferas de la política.

Ópera prima de Axel Uriegas sobre una historia ficticia, pero basada en hechos reales, que recrea el segundo escape de Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. La película retoma las indagatorias oficiales sobre la fuga y muestra una hipótesis del polémico escape ocurrido en julio de 2015, en el Penal de Máxima Seguridad del Altiplano.

Producida por José Arroyo, quien eligió a Uriegas como director de este filme que se basa libremente en la vida del narcotraficante y cuyo guión escrito por Roberto Flores, quien se documentó con información del dominio público entre periódicos, internet y redes sociales.

Originalmente la cinta se titulaba “El Chapo. El escape del siglo”, pero la producción decidió cambiarle el nombre.

“El Chapo” es considerado por los gobiernos de México y Estados Unidos como uno de los responsables de miles de muertes en la guerra contra el narcotráfico, que supuso la persecución contra los cárteles el gobierno del ex presidente Felipe Calderón. También en un perfil psicológico de la Procuraduría General de la República (PGR), es definido como un hombre frío, calculador e inteligente, asuntos que aborda el filme, que también puntualiza en el lado humano del criminal.

Interpretado por el actor Irineo Álvarez, quién afirmó ante la prensa que: “La gente va a ver a un Chapo que es cariñoso con sus mujeres, un hombre muy inteligente, audaz, con sexto sentido para los negocios y olfato para el peligro. Es un personaje que todo mundo desearía hacer en mi profesión “, afirmó.

Capo, el escape del siglo, es la primera cinta biográfica sobre el narcotraficante del que se han hecho varias historias en formato video home y teleseries que aluden al personaje.
