Though there were many positive storylines in Arkansas’ 24-17 loss at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in the Southwest Classic, it was again the poor special teams play that haunted the Hogs. On the opening kickoff, Texas A&M hit the seam and took it back 100 yards for a score just 14 seconds into the game. Just into the second quarter, it was 17-0 Aggies, and Arkansas looked lifeless.

The defense provided the spark, shutting down Aggies Quarterback Kellen Mond, one of the toughest mobile quarterbacks in the SEC. Dre Greenlaw picked off a Mond pass twice and recorded 13 tackles.  De’Jon Harris led the defense with 6 and a sack. Arkansas got on the board when Cole Kelly came in to for a goal-line package and corralled a high snap before diving in the end zone. A Connor Limpert kick got the Hogs within a score in the 3rd period, but the Aggies got some help, being bailed out with key penalties to allow for a 4th quarter score. Arkansas Answered on a laser pass from Ty Storey to Mike Woods. With time running low, the Hog defense got a key stop allowing Storey and the offense one more shot to tie up the game and force overtime, something we have seen in 3 of the last 4 games in the series. Storey would have his pass intercepted near the Aggie 20 yard line, and Texas A&M ran the remaining timeout to secure the win.

Storey threw for 193 yards and a score, while Rakeem Boyd was the feature back, rushing for only 47 yards. Arkansas held Kellen Mond to only 14 rushing yards, show just how improved this group is under John Chavis. If Arkansas can fix special teams, and there was improvement in the punting game this week, they can give themselves a chance in most games. Coach Morris attributed the progress of the punting game to Freshman punter Reid Baur having faith in the guys in front of him. Ty Storey was sacked 5 times Saturday, so some of the special teams performance may be linked to an underachieving offensive line.

Up next for the Hogs is the Top Ranked Alabama Crimson Tide next week. Arkansas is a heavy underdog, but if they continue to show development as they did this week, they should be back in the win column before long.

Pero para mala fortuna de Storey su pase seria interceptado cerca de la línea de 20 yardas de Aggie, y de allí en adelante Texas A&M controlo el encuentro para asegurar la victoria.

Storey lanzó para 193 yardas y una anotación, mientras que Rakeem Boyd corrió 47 yardas. Arkansas mantuvo a Kellen Mond en solo 14 yardas terrestres, gracias a la labor hecha por el entrenador John Chavis y el mejoramiento de sus muchachos.

Arkansas deberá mejorar el desempeño de equipos especiales, y que el resto de la escuadra haga lo suyo; esto le puede dar una oportunidad de ganar los próximos juegos. El director técnico y jefe en mando Chad Morris atribuyó el progreso del juego al novato Reid Baur teniendo fe en los muchachos que tenía delante. Ty Storey fue despedido 5 veces el sábado, por lo que parte del rendimiento de los equipos especiales puede estar vinculado a una línea ofensiva de bajo rendimiento.

La cosa no se le pone fácil a Arkansas ya que el Diablo llega a Ciudad Universitaria y nos referimos a Alabama; quien esta mejor en la tabla general con cinco victorias y es el rival de los Jabalís este próximo sábado.

Arkansas ha mejorado, pero si continúan mostrando desarrollo como lo hicieron el sábado ante Texas A&M, los resultados positivos se podrían ver en tan solo poco tiempo.
