Gabriel García Márquez; El escándalo del siglo

La obra periodística del premio Nobel,  “Gabriel García Márquez, El Escándalo del Siglo” que se compone de una selección de artículos que abarcan treinta y cinco años de su carrera como periodista, se lanza a la venta este mes de octubre del 2018. 

En esta obra su autor deja muy claro que el periodismo siempre fue su principal pasión, la más perdurable y por la que quiso ser recordado: “No quiero que se me recuerde por cien años de soledad, ni por el premio Nobel, sino por el periódico”. 

Esta antología pretende ser la muestra más representativa de la tensión narrativa entre periodismo  y literatura que recorrió toda su trayectoria como reportero. Cubriendo cuatro décadas, este viaje a través de medio centenar de textos muestra como “el mejor oficio del mundo” esta en el corazón de la obra del premio Nobel colombiano. 

Con edición y selección a cargo de Cristóbal Perea y prólogo de Jon Lee Anderson, este volumen contiene piezas clave como los reportajes escritos desde Roma sobre la muerte de una joven italiana, suceso que permitió al autor pintar una imagen muy completa de las elites políticas y artísticas del país, así como crónicas sobre la trata de blancas desde París hasta America Latina o apuntes sobre Fidel Castro o el papa Pío XII. Encontramos  también fragmentos en los que aparecen por primera vez las familias Buendía y Aracataca, junto con artículos que contemplan la política, la sociedad y la cultura bajo la luz sólida, profunda y experimentada de este contador de historias.

The journalistic work of the Nobel Prize winner, “Gabriel García Márquez, El Escándalo del Siglo,” which is composed of a selection of articles spanning thirty-five years of his career as a journalist, is being released in October 2018. 

In this work the author makes it very clear that journalism was always his main passion, the most lasting and for which he wanted to be remembered: “I do not want to be remembered for a hundred years of solitude, not for the Nobel Prize, but for the Newspaper.” 

This anthology aims to be the most representative sample of the narrative tension between journalism and literature that ran throughout his career as a reporter. Covering four decades, this journey through half a hundred texts shows how “the best trade in the world” is at the heart of the work of the Colombian Nobel Prize winner. 

With editing and selection by Cristóbal Perea and prologue by Jon Lee Anderson, this volume contains key pieces such as reports written from Rome about the death of a young Italian woman, an event that allowed the author to paint a very complete picture of the political elites and of the country, as well as chronicles on the trafficking of women from Paris to Latin America or notes on Fidel Castro and Pope Pius XII. We also find fragments in which the Buendía and Aracataca families appear for the first time, along with articles that contemplate politics, society and culture under the solid, deep and experienced light of this storyteller. 

Many of García Márquez’s followers have cataloged this book as “Gabriel’s best work that covers almost his entire life.”
