Este fue el XI titular con que Peter Vermes se jugó el partido de ida de la final de la Conferencia Oeste ante Portland. En el marco Tim Melia, atrás: Ike Opara, Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, Seth Sinovic. En el medio: Roger Espinoza, Illie Sanchez, Felipe Gutierrez. En el ataque: Daniel Salloi, Khiry Shelton, and Johnny Russell. El elenco logro un importante empate 0-0 y ahora Cierra en casa el jueves por la noche.
El juego: Fue el Colombiano Asprilla delantero de Portland que amenazo en los primeros 30 segundos del primer tiempo, pero Tim Melia con gran atrapada para Sporting KC y negaba lo que pudo haber sido el 1-0.
Nuevamente se salvaría Sporting KC a la altura del minuto 5 cuando Jorge Villafana de pierna derecha estrellaría el balón en el palo izquierdo que defendía Melia. Los primeros 45 minutos del partido terminaron 0-0.
En la segunda mitad, y a la altura del minuto 69 una jugada controversial cuando el Tiko Guzmán llegaba a empujar la pelota pero el gol para Timbers fue anulado por estar en posición de fuera de lugar. Se salvaba una vez más Sporting KC.
El guardameta de Sporting KC Tim Melia no permitió anotación durante el juego e hizo atrapadas de mucha importancia que mantienen a Sporting con un pie en la final “Jugamos muy bien, hicimos un gran esfuerzo y nos llevamos un punto muy importante de visitante, y ahora regresamos a casa y tendremos el apoyo de nuestra afición, seguimos aprendiendo a jugar en situaciones difíciles. Ahora todo queda en nuestras manos y si ganamos en casa estamos en la final.”.
El Capitán de los celestes Matt Besler dijo “Este fue partido muy difícil, sabemos que es un resultado muy importante. Nos concentramos muy bien, hicimos jugadas de mucha importancia durante el partido y ahora regresamos a casa.”
El Director Técnico de Sporting KC Peter Vermes salió contento con el resultado ante Portland y ahora quiere ganar el pase en casa el jueves por la noche. “Mira fue un partido dividido, creo que hicimos lo que necesitamos, no pudimos concretar en las oportunidades que nos quedaron. Defensivamente jugamos muy bien, y ahora regresamos a casa a jugar. Nos gusta jugar en casa, tratamos de ganar aquí pero no lo logramos y lo intentaremos en casa.” Concluyo Peter Vermes.
El partido de vuelta entre Sporting KC y Portland está programado para el jueves 29 de Noviembre en el Infierno Azul. El silbatazo esta para los 8:30PM hora del centro.

Sporting KC achieved an important 0-0 draw and now closes at home on Thursday night.
The game: It was the Colombian forward Asprilla of Portland who threatened in the first 30 seconds of the first half, but Tim Melia with great save for Sporting KC and denied what could have been 1-0.
Sporting KC would be saved again at fifth minute when Jorge Villafana’s right leg would crash the ball in the left post that Melia defended. The first 45 minutes of the match ended 0-0.
In the second half, and at the top of the 69th minute a controversial play when Tiko Guzman came to push the ball into the goal for Timbers but the referee denied the goal since player was in offside position.
Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia did not allow scoring during the game and made very important saves that keep Sporting with one foot in the final. “We played very well, we made a great effort and we got a very important point, and now we return home and we will have the support of our fans, we continue to learn to play in difficult situations. Now everything is in our hands and if we win at home we are in the final. “
Matt Besler said “This was a very difficult match; we know that it is a very important result. We concentrated very well, we made important plays during the match and now we are going home.”
Sporting KC Technical Director Peter Vermes was happy with the result against Portland and now wants to win at home on Thursday night. “It was a divided game, I think we did what we need, we could not execute in the opportunities that we had. The second leg of the Western Finals between Sporting KC and Portland is scheduled for Thursday, November 29 at the Blue Hell. Kickoff is set for 8:30 PM Central Time.
