Artistas emergentes se fusionan en un nuevo show

TULSA, OK – Una nueva exhibición de arte en Brookside que inaugura esta semana, celebra el arte de artistas locales emergentes con una mirada única sobre la abstracción en distintos medios. “FRESH Oklahoma 2019 – abstracción contemporánea por artistas emergentes 2019” abre el 8 de febrero en Landon Thomas Designs, 3517 S. Peoria.
La exhibición fue puesta en escena por el pintor de Tulsa, Gabriel Rojas, que explicó su inspiración a la hora de nuclear todas las obras. “Organicé esta muestra desde la idea, el diseño y la instalación”, le dijo Rojas a La Semana. “Como artista emergente que soy me siento un poco frustrado por las pocas oportunidades y los niveles de escenografía disponibles aquí en Tulsa”.
Rojas, cuyo trabajo también se incluyen en la muestra dijo que es muy difícil para los artistas que no son de renombre en la ciudad conseguir que les publiquen sus obras en las galerías locales.
“Algunos lugares no aceptan propuestas, algunas sólo una vez al año y con largas listas de espera”, explicó Rojas. “Me di cuenta de que es un ambiente muy competitivo y es complicado lograr hacer una muestra decente, especialmente para quienes recién empezamos. Encima, hay tasas de venta, y hay cuotas de asociación. Las oportunidades surgen de artistas, otra gente que creyó en mi, y hoy gracias a ellos he podido empezar a ser alguien. Por eso decidí crear esta muestra para dar oportunidades en vez de esperarlas”.
FRESH Oklahoma 2019 presenta trabajos en 2 dimensiones realizados por artistas locales y poco representados de diversos orígenes que realizan investigación en géneros y combinan lo textil, la botánica, el arte gráfico, la pintura expresionista y la fotografía.
Entre los artistas en la muestra se destacan Jared Boyd, Marti Cordova, Lexi Dickens, Emma Difani, Jay Exon, Hal Hadzeriga, Mycah Higley, Theresa Hultberg, Jennifer Johnson, Benjamin Liggett, Krista Mustain, Byron Perdue, Jimike Randolph, Jason Reed, Gabriel Rojas, Virginia Sitzes, Kitra Smith, Shannon Smith, Shelley Vann, y Malcolm Zachariah.
La recepción inaugural se realizará entre las 6 de la tarde y las 9 de la noche el 8 de febrero en la sala

Emerging artists featured in new show

TULSA, OK — A new art show opening this week on Brookside showcases the work of several up and coming local artists each bringing a unique perspective to work in a variety of media. “FRESH Oklahoma 2019 – Contemporary Abstraction by local Emerging Artists opens February” 8th at Landon Thomas Designs at 3517 S. Peoria.
The exhibition was put together by Tulsa painter Gabriel Rojas, who explained his thoughts in curating the new show.
“I organized this show, from the idea, to the designs, to the installation,” Rojas told La Semana. “As an emerging artist I was a little frustrated by the amount of opportunities, and the levels of the art scene here in Tulsa.”
Rojas, whose work is also included in the show, said it’s difficult for artists who are not yet well known to get their work seen by the public or featured in local galleries.
“Some places don’t accept proposals, some once a year, and often with long waiting periods,” Rojas explained. “I noticed it was highly competitive to get anywhere decent to show, especially for an artist starting out. Also, all the submission fees, and membership fees began to add up. Most of my opportunities came from other artists who believed in me and my work and thanks to them, I’ve started to gain some traction. So, I just decided to just create the opportunity instead of waiting.”
FRESH Oklahoma 2019 features 2D work by local emerging and underrepresented artists from a diverse range of backgrounds and investigation, including textile design, botany, printmaking, expressionist painting, and photography.
Featured artists are Jared Boyd, Marti Cordova, Lexi Dickens, Emma Difani, Jay Exon, Hal Hadzeriga, Mycah Higley, Theresa Hultberg, Jennifer Johnson, Benjamin Liggett, Krista Mustain, Byron Perdue, Jimike Randolph, Jason Reed, Gabriel Rojas, Virginia Sitzes, Kitra Smith, Shannon Smith, Shelley Vann, and Malcolm Zachariah.
An opening reception will be held from 6 pm – 9 pm on Friday, February 8th. The show is presented at Landon Thomas Designs at 3517 S. Peoria, and runs through March 8th. (La Semana)
