Mentiras y atentados contra inmigrantes marcan estado de la unión

TULSA, OK. Aunque su discurso sería diseñado para unir al pueblo estadounidense, el segundo discurso de Donald Trump sobre el Estado de la Unión estuvo marcado por reclamos falsos y exigencia de apoyo a políticas que han estado entre las más divisivas de todos los presidentes. Como se esperaba, los inmigrantes fueron los más afectados por las falsedades y los ataques del presidente. 

En un raro momento de no partidismo, Trump prometió al comienzo de su discurso avanzar en el programa espacial de los Estados Unidos. Después de presentar al astronauta Buzz Aldrin, el segundo hombre en caminar sobre la superficie de la luna, Trump dijo lo siguiente: “Este año, los astronautas estadounidenses volverán al espacio en cohetes estadounidenses“. 

Pero los estadounidenses no tuvieron que esperar mucho para que las mentiras comenzaran. 

Trump afirmó falsamente que había iniciado un “auge económico sin precedentes“, omitiendo convenientemente el impacto devastador que sus políticas comerciales han tenido en el sector manufacturero. Trump también se refirió a la economía de los EE.UU. Como “de lejos la economía más calurosa de todo el mundo“. El New York Times señaló que China, India, Letonia, Polonia y Grecia tenían economías más sólidas en el último año. 

Trump también mintió acerca de cuántos empleos se habían creado durante su tiempo en el cargo, inflando el número en aproximadamente 400,000. 

Pasando a lo que seguramente sería la parte más incendiaria de su discurso, Trump exageró y mintió de manera plana mientras trataba de conseguir apoyo para su llamado a “construir el muro“. 

Sin mencionar ninguna evidencia, Trump acusó a las ciudades mexicanas de transportar a miles de migrantes centroamericanos a áreas no protegidas de la frontera sur de los Estados Unidos. 

“Los inmigrantes legales fortalecen a nuestra nación y enriquecen a nuestra sociedad de innumerables formas“, dijo Trump en un momento de descarada hipocresía, ya que ha pedido una legislación que reduciría drásticamente la inmigración legal, particularmente la reunificación familiar. 

Trump culpó falsamente a los inmigrantes indocumentados por dañar la economía de los EE. UU. Y obstruir los hospitales de la nación, a pesar del hecho de que los indocumentados no tienen derecho a ningún beneficio federal. 

“Año tras año, innumerables estadounidenses son asesinados por extranjeros ilegales criminales“, dijo Trump en una de las mentiras más flagrantes de la noche. La verdad es que este número es bastante pequeño, y los delitos son cometidos a tasas mucho más bajas por los inmigrantes indocumentados que por los ciudadanos estadounidenses. 

Trump no llegó a anunciar que llamaría a un estado de emergencia para construir el muro sin la aprobación del Congreso, pero dijo que estaba enviando a miles de soldados estadounidenses a la frontera para hacer frente a los cruces fronterizos ilegales a los que se refirió como una “crisis nacional urgente“. La verdad es que los pasos fronterizos no autorizados han disminuido drásticamente en los últimos veinte años. 

“La pared adecuada nunca se construyó. Lo construiré “, prometió Trump nuevamente, y agregó:” Las paredes funcionan y las paredes salvan vidas “. 

Después de elogiar el hecho de que hay más mujeres en el Congreso que nunca antes, el presidente se volcó con ellas instando a los legisladores a aprobar leyes que restringen los derechos reproductivos de las mujeres. 

En cuanto a la política exterior, Trump se dio una palmadita en la espalda por retirarse de un tratado de armas nucleares con Rusia y afirmó que era responsable de evitar la guerra en Asia. 

“Si no hubiera sido elegido presidente de los Estados Unidos, ahora mismo, en mi opinión, estaríamos en una guerra importante con Corea del Norte”, dijo el presidente, como de costumbre, sin ofrecer pruebas que respalden su afirmación. 

Los líderes demócratas respondieron con prontitud al discurso del presidente e indicaron en un correo electrónico a los miembros del partido: “Donald Trump no perdió el tiempo tratando de engañar y engañar al pueblo estadounidense con su discurso sobre el Estado de la Unión”. (La Semana) 

 

 

Lies and attacks on immigrants mark State of the Union

TULSA, OK — While claiming his speech would be one designed to unite the American people, Donald Trump’s second State of the Union address was marked by false claims and calls for support of policies that have been among the most divisive of any president. As expected, immigrants bore the brunt of the president’s falsehoods and attacks. 

In a rare moment of nonpartisanship, Trump promised early in his speech to advance the U.S. space program. After introducing astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the surface of the moon, Trump made this vow: “This year American astronauts will go back into space on American rockets.” 

But Americans didn’t have to wait long for the lies to begin. 

Trump falsely claimed that he had ushered in an “unprecedented economic boom,” conveniently omitting the devastating impact his trade policies have had on the manufacturing sector. Trump also referred to the U.S. economy as “far and away the hottest economy anywhere in the world.” The New York Times pointed out that China, India, Latvia, Poland, and Greece all had stronger economies in the past year. 

Trump also lied about how many jobs had been created during his time in office, inflating the number by roughly 400,000. 

Moving to what was sure to be the most incendiary part of his speech, Trump predictably exaggerated and flatly lied as he tried to drum up support for his call to “build the wall.” 

Citing no evidence whatsoever, Trump accused Mexican cities of bussing thousands of Central American migrants to unprotected areas of the United States’ southern border. 

“Legal immigrants strengthen our nation and enrich our society in countless ways,” Trump said in a moment of blatant hypocrisy, as he has called for legislation that would dramatically curtail legal immigration, particularly family reunification. 

Trump falsely blamed undocumented immigrants for damaging the U.S. economy and clogging the nation’s hospitals, despite the fact that the undocumented are not entitled to any federal benefits. 

“Year after year countless Americans are murdered by criminal illegal aliens,” Trump said in one of the most flagrant lies of the evening. The truth is that this number is quite small, and crimes are committed at far lower rates by undocumented immigrants than by American citizens. 

Trump fell short of announcing he would call a state of emergency to build the wall without congressional approval, but he did say we was sending thousands of U.S. troops to the border to deal illegal border crossings he referred to as an “urgent national crisis.” The truth is that unauthorized border crossings have declined dramatically over the past twenty years. 

“The proper wall never got built. I will get it built,” Trump promised again, adding, “Walls work and walls save lives.” 

After praising the fact that there are more women serving in Congress than ever before, the president quickly turned on them by urging legislators to pass laws restricting women’s reproductive rights. 

Turning to foreign policy, Trump patted himself on the back for pulling out of a nuclear arms treaty with Russia and claimed he was responsible for averting war in Asia. 

“If I had not been elected president of the United States we would right now, in my opinion, be in a major war with North Korea,” the president said, as usual offering no evidence to support his claim. 

Democratic leaders were quick to respond to the president’s speech, stating in an email to party members, “Donald Trump didn’t waste any time in trying to deceive and mislead the American people with his State of the Union address.” (La Semana)
