Hamilton makes history at the British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won a record sixth British Grand Prix on Sunday after making the most of the introduction of a safety car on lap 20 of 52 to jump ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas and into first place.The 141,000 crowd were wholeheartedly behind the Englishman, who is nearing ever closer to securing his sixth world title with a 39-point lead over Bottas in second.

“What a day, I love you Silverstone,” said Hamilton on his warm-down lap.
Carlos Sainz, meanwhile, climbed up from 13th to 6th position, and he now sits seventh in the FIA Formula 1 Standings.

“Silverstone, I love you!” an emotional Hamilton said after the race. “I can’t tell you how proud I am to be here today. I’m forever grateful to all the fans who came. I couldn’t have done it without my team … I’m super proud to be a part of this.
