El premio The Best es uno de los galardones individuales más deseados por los jugadores. En esta oportunidad ya se conoce al trío final que tendrá el chance de quedarse con él: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo y Virgil Van Dijk.

La campaña de Messi, en la que llegó a semifinales de la Champions con el Barcelona y ganó una liga, se erige como la mejor carta de presentación del argentino.

Mientras que la actuación de Van Dijk, en la que se alzó con la Copa Europea con el Liverpool, fungen como otro currículo destacado.

En la rama femenina la inglesa Lucy Bronze, la estadounidense Alex Morgan y su compatriota Megan Rapinoe quedaron como las contendientes finales en el organismo.

La distinción la otorga la FIFA al mejor jugador de cada campaña y, para ello, esta vez las votaciones se encuentran abiertas en la plataforma web del ente.

La fecha para la entrega del galardón es el 23 de septiembre de este año y la gala tendrá lugar en el Teatro Scala, en la ciudad de Milán.

También se busca al mejor DT. Los nombres de los finalistas que competirán por ser premiados como el mejor entrenador de la FIFA también fueron develados.

El español Pep Guardiola, el alemán Jurgen Klopp y el argentino Mauricio Pochettino, son quienes llegaron a la fase decisiva para optar por el premio.

En el renglón femenino van por la distinción la estadounidense Jill Ellis, la española Phil Neville y la holandesa Sarina Wiegman.

En la gala también se estará definiendo al Mejor Portero de la FIFA.

El brasileño Alisson Becker tiene las papeletas para triunfar, tras su año ganador de Champions con Liverpool y de Copa América con su selección.

Su compatriota Ederson figura como su contendor en la pelea por el galardón junto con el alemán Marc-André ter Stegen.

Por la rama femenina irán por el premio la chilena Christiane Endler, la sueca Hedvig Lindahl y la holandesa Sari van Veenendaal.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk have been named as the final three-man shortlist for FIFA’s The Best men’s award.

The same trio were nominated for UEFA’s Player of the Year, with Liverpool’s Van Dijk becoming the first defender to win the award at the Champions League draw ceremony last week.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric won the award last year, beating Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to the prize.

Pep Guardiola is among the contenders for The Best Men’s Coach award after guiding Manchester City to the English domestic treble last season.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp is also nominated after taking the Merseysiders to a sixth Champions League success.

Mauricio Pochettino, whose Tottenham side were beaten by Liverpool in the Champions League final, completes the nominations.

Manchester City and Liverpool were also represented in The Best Goalkeeper category, with Brazilian duo Ederson and Alisson nominated along with Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Messi is also in contention for a second award with his chip for Barcelona against Real Betis in March nominated for the Puskas Award for goal of the season.

Juanfer Quintero’s free-kick for River Plate against Racing Club and Daniel Zsori’s strike for Hungarian side Debrecen and Ferencvaros are also nominated.

USA internationals Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan are nominated for The Best Women’s Player. The duo scored six goals each at the Women’s World Cup in France for a share of the Golden Boot.

England star Lucy Bronze, completes the nominations for Women’s Best Player. The Lyon defender became the first English winner of UEFA’s Women’s Player of the Year award last week.

Jill Ellis and Phil Neville are in contention for the Women’s Coach of the Year. Ellis guided USA to World Cup success while Neville’s Lionesses reached the semi-finals.

Sarina Wiegman of the Netherlands, whose side finished runners-up, is also nominated.

Netherlands goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal, Chile’s Christiane Endler and Sweden’s Hedvig Lindahl are nominated for the inaugural Best Women’s Goalkeeper award.

Silvia Grecco from Brazil, the Netherlands fans at the Women’s World Cup and Justo Sanchez from Uruguay are nominated for the Fan Award.

The nominations were announced at San Siro in Milan with the winners revealed at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony, also in Milan, on Monday, September 23.
