Ocho estudiantes de TPS honrados en la ceremonia de MLK / Eight TPS students honored at MLK Student Award Ceremony
TULSA, OK – La sociedad de conmemoración Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. honró a ocho estudiantes de las escuelas públicas de Tulsa que ganaron concursos de arte, danza y ensayo en una ceremonia especial de premios estudiantiles.
“Estoy muy orgulloso de nuestros estudiantes y agradecido a la sociedad de conmemoración Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. por reconocer a nuestros talentosos académicos”, dijo la superintendente Deborah A. Gist. “La vida y el trabajo del Dr. King son poderosos recordatorios de la diferencia que una persona puede hacer en nuestro mundo, y es inspirador ver a nuestros estudiantes celebrando ese legado “.
Los ganadores del concurso de estudiantes son los siguientes:
Concurso de arte juvenil: Se pidió a los estudiantes de los grados K-6 que crearan una ilustración basada en uno de los tres temas que caracteriza la vida y el trabajo del Dr. King: Amor, Paz o Unidad, y lo que el tema significa para ellos. Los tres sorteos ganadores se exhiben en el Libro de recuerdos de MLK 2020.
1er Lugar: Rosaura Flores, 6to grado, primaria McKinley;
2do Lugar: Maria Vasquez, 5to grado, Eugene Field Elementary; y
3er Lugar: Andrew Fraley, 6to grado, primaria McKinley.
Concurso de danza interpretativa de la paz: Se alentó a los individuos y a los grupos de equipos (de 18 años o menos) a crear e interpretar un baile interpretativo con el tema de “Paz”. Los bailarines fueron juzgados en base a la precisión, el espectáculo, la coreografía y el rendimiento. Todos realizaron su número de baile ganador en la ceremonia de premios estudiantiles. Los ganadores son los siguientes:
2do Lugar: Malise Washington y Dmari Maxville, estudiantes de 6to grado, academia de demostración Monroe.
Concurso de ensayos: Se pidió a los estudiantes de secundaria (grados 6-8) que escribieran un ensayo de 350-500 palabras sobre el tema: “Vivo mi vida como un reflejo del sueño del Dr. King.” Los ensayos fueron juzgados con base en la originalidad / creatividad, claridad, uso de hechos o ejemplos específicos y otros criterios. Sus ensayos se publican en el 2020 MLK Souvenir Book. Los premios se otorgaron de la siguiente manera:
1er Lugar: Jesús Ayvar-López, 6to grado, primaria McKinley;
2do Lugar: Miguel Alcocer, 6to grado, primaria McKinley; y
3er Lugar: Roberto Martinez, 6to grado, primaria McKinley.
Los estudiantes participaron en una serie de actividades de una semana que terminó con el desfile del día de Tulsa Martin Luther King, Jr. el lunes 20 de enero. Este año marca el 41 aniversario del desfile, con el tema “Visión 20/20: El sueño visto claramente.”
Eight TPS students honored at MLK Student Award Ceremony
TULSA, OK – The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Society honored eight students from Tulsa Public Schools who won art, dance, and essay contests at a special Student Award Ceremony.
“I’m so proud of our students and grateful to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Society for recognizing our talented scholars,” said Superintendent Deborah A. Gist. “Dr. King’s life and work are powerful reminders of the difference that one person can make in our world, and it is inspiring to see our students celebrating that legacy.”
Student contest winners are as follows:
Youth Art Contest: Students in grades K-6 were asked to create an illustration based on one of three themes that characterizes Dr. King’s life and work – Love, Peace or Unity – and what the theme means to them. All three winning drawings are showcased in the 2020 MLK Souvenir Book.
1st Place: Rosaura Flores, 6th grade, McKinley Elementary;
2nd Place: Maria Vasquez, 5th grade, Eugene Field Elementary; and
3rd Place: Andrew Fraley, 6th grade, McKinley Elementary.
Interpretive Dance of Peace Contest: Individuals and team ensembles (ages 18 and younger) were encouraged to create and perform an interpretive dance with the theme of “Peace.” Dancers were judged based on accuracy, showmanship, choreography and performance. All performed their winning dance number at the Student Award Ceremony. Winners are as follows:
2nd Place: Malise Washington and Dmari Maxville, 6th grade students, Monroe Demonstration Academy.
Essay Contest: Middle school students (grades 6-8) were asked to write a 350-500 word essay on the topic, “I live my life as a reflection of Dr. King’s dream by . . .” Essays were judged based on originality/creativity, clarity, use of facts or specific examples and other criteria. Their essays are published in the 2020 MLK Souvenir Book. Prizes were awarded as follows:
1st Place: Jesus Ayvar-Lopez, 6th grade, McKinley Elementary;
2nd Place: Miguel Alcocer, 6th grade, McKinley Elementary; and
3rd Place: Roberto Martinez, 6th grade, McKinley Elementary.
Students participated in a weeklong series of activities that ended with the Tulsa Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade on Monday, Jan. 20. This year marks the 41st Anniversary of the parade, with the theme “20/20 Vision: The Dream Seen Clearly.”
