La Copa América también fue aplazada para el 2021 / Copa America 2020 is postponed to 2021

La Copa América 2020, que debía disputarse entre junio y julio en Argentina y Colombia, se postergó para el año próximo debido a la pandemia del coronavirus, informó este martes la Conmebol.

El torneo, que por primera vez se disputa en dos países, se jugará entre el 11 de junio y el 11 de julio de 2021, señaló el ente del fútbol sudamericano en un comunicado.

“Es una medida extraordinaria para una situación inesperada, y por lo tanto responde a la necesidad fundamental de evitar una evolución exponencial del virus”, señaló la Conmebol.

La decisión fue adoptada en conjunto con la UEFA, que también ha postergado la Eurocopa para el 2021.

“Agradecemos también a UEFA y a su Presidente, Aleksander ?eferin, por el trabajo en conjunto y la decisión coordinada de posponer también la Eurocopa 2020 para beneficio de toda la familia del fútbol”, señala el comunicado del organismo sudamericano.

Como estaba previsto para 2020, también el año próximo ambos torneos coincidirán y los jugadores sudamericanos que militan en clubes europeos no tendrán obstáculos para participar de la Copa América.

Tuesday will go down as an important day in the footballing calendar, with CONMEBOL announcing that the 2020 edition of the Copa America has been postponed until the summer of 2021.This news follows the decision taken by UEFA earlier in the day to postpone their own European Championship until the summer of 2021 too.

Argentina and Colombia had been due to host the event jointly this summer, but now the dates set are June 11 to July 11 in 2021.

“Due to the worldwide evolution of the Coronavirus and with the aim of safeguarding the health of South American football, CONMEBOL postpones the celebration of the 47th edition of the Copa America to the dates of June 11 to July 11, 2021,” a statement read.Both the format and the arranged groups will be kept, with the only change being the dates in which the tournament will be played.
