BERNA, 10 abr (Reuters) – El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, advirtió no reanudar el fútbol muy pronto en medio de la pandemia del coronavirus, y dijo el viernes a las 211 asociaciones miembro de la organización que semejante comportamiento sería irresponsable.

El fútbol en todo el mundo se ha detenido y las ligas domésticas han sido suspendidas, mientras que grandes torneos como la Eurocopa 2020 y la Copa América fueron aplazados un año.

“Nuestra máxima prioridad, nuestro principio, el que empleamos para nuestras competiciones y animamos a todos a seguir es: la salud es lo primero”, dijo el viernes Infantino en un comunicado que FIFA comentó que estaba especialmente dirigido a sus miembros.

“Por mucho que lo recalque no es suficiente. No merece la pena poner en peligro ni una sola vida humana por ningún partido, ninguna competición y ninguna liga. Todas las personas del mundo deberían tener esto muy claro en su cabeza”, agregó.

En todo el mundo se realizan discusiones sobre cuándo y cómo reanudar la temporada, mientras en algunos países hay desacuerdos sobre si los jugadores deberían aceptar recortes salariales.

“Sería más que irresponsable obligar a que las competiciones se reanuden si la situación no es segura al 100%”, dijo Infantino. “Si tenemos que esperar un poco más tiempo, debemos hacerlo. Es mejor esperar un poquito más que correr riesgos”, sostuvo.

Infantino reiteró que la FIFA está evaluando el impacto financiero de la detención para poder preparar una respuesta adecuada.

“Tienen que saber que estaremos ahí y que encontraremos las soluciones juntos”, afirmó. “En ningún momen­to estarán solos (…) el mundo sabrá dónde va el dinero e, igualmente importante, por qué el dinero va allí”, añadió.

“Si el fútbol consigue tener un debate donde todos contribuyan positivamente, teniendo en cuenta el interés global y no el interés individual, estoy convencido de que nuestro futuro puede ser mejor que nuestro pasado, y de que estaremos mejor preparados para los tiempos que se avecinan”, refirió.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has warned against re-starting football too early amid the Coronavirus pandemic, telling FIFA’s 211 member associations on Friday that such behaviour would be irresponsible.

Soccer around the world has come to a standstill with domestic leagues on hold and major tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the Copa America postponed for one year.

“Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow is that health comes first,” Infantino said in a statement on Friday which FIFA said was specially aimed at its members.

“I cannot stress this enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life. Everyone in the world should have this very clear in their mind.”

Meanwhile, discussions are being held around the world over when and how to re-start the season while in some countries there are disagreements over whether players should face pay cuts.

“It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100 per cent safe,” Infantino said.

“If we have to wait a little longer we must do so. It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take any risks.”

Infantino reiterated that FIFA was assessing the financial impact of the stoppage so it could prepare the right response.

“You have to know that we will be there and we will find solutions together,” he said. “You will never be alone… (and) the world will know where the money goes and, equally important, why the money goes there.

“If football manages to have a discussion where everyone contributes positively, and keeps in mind the global interest over the individual one, I am convinced our future can be better than our past, and we will be better prepared for the times ahead,” Infantino added.
