Union Schools seguirá ofreciendo comidas gratis en verano / Union Public Schools to Continue Offering Free Meals in Summer

TULSA, OK – Union Public Schools ha servido más de 430.000 comidas gratuitas en la acera desde el 23 de marzo, cuando el estado de Oklahoma cerró las escuelas debido a la pandemia de COVID-19, y continuará sirviendo comidas gratuitas para los niños durante el verano.

El último día oficial de clases para Union fue el viernes 15 de mayo. A partir del lunes, 18 de mayo, Union pasará a servir comidas de lunes a jueves, con “comidas dobles” los jueves para compensar la no distribución los viernes.

“Desde el 23 de marzo, hemos servido aproximadamente 429.000 comidas hasta el 7 de mayo”, dijo Lisa Griffin, directora de nutrición infantil. “Nuestro récord semanal de comidas servidas fué de 76.842 para la semana del 13 de abril, así que sabemos que estamos proporcionando un servicio muy necesario”.

Las comidas de verano se seguirán distribuyendo para “llevar”.

El personal de la escuela servirá a las familias de 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., de lunes a jueves.

Los lugares que proveen comida para llevar son Ellen Ochoa Elementary, 12000 E. 31st Street; 6th/7th Grade Center, 10100 E. 61st Street; y Jefferson Elementary, 8418 S. 107th E. Ave.

“Unión proporcionará a cada niño dos comidas, desayuno y almuerzo, que estarán disponibles para que las recojan de manera gratuita”, dijo Griffin. “No importa si los niños no están matriculados actualmente en las escuelas públicas Union”.

Union Public Schools to Continue Offering Free Meals in Summer

TULSA, OK – Union Public Schools has served more than 430,000 free curbside meals since March 23, when the state of Oklahoma closed schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Union will continue serving free meals for children throughout the summer.

The last official day of school for Union is Friday, May 15. Beginning Monday, May 18, Union will transition to serving meals Mondays through Thursday, with “double meals” served on Thursdays to compensate for no distribution on Fridays.

“Since March 23, we have served approximately 429,000 meals as of May 7,” said Lisa Griffin, director of Child Nutrition. “Our weekly meal count has been as high as 76,842 meals served, the week of April 13, so we know we are providing a much-needed service.”

Summer meals will continue to be distributed in “grab and go” fashion.

Union staff will serve families as they drive through lines from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Mondays through Thursdays.

Locations providing pick-up meals are Ellen Ochoa Elementary, 12000 E. 31st Street; 6th/7th Grade Center, 10100 E. 61st Street; and Jefferson Elementary, 8418 S. 107th E. Ave.

“Union will provide each child two meals, breakfast and lunch, which will be available for free drive-through pick up for any children,” Griffin said. “Children do not have to be currently enrolled at Union Public Schools.”
