Latinos culpan a Trump por respuesta fallida al COVID-19 / Latinos blame Trump for failed COVID-19 response

Nueva York, NY – Una nueva encuesta nacional de latinos en los Estados Unidos publicada por SOMOS US, UnidosUS y Latino Decisions encontró que el 66% de los latinos votaría por el exvicepresidente Joe Biden en comparación con el 24% por el presidente Donald Trump. La encuesta, que se realizó entre el 7 y el 15 de agosto, también encontró que los latinos culpan cada vez más a Trump por su manejo de la pandemia de COVID-19.

Más del 50% conoce a alguien que se ha enfermado; El 10% conoce a alguien que ha fallecido; más del 80% se preocupa por la seguridad de los niños y el personal que regresa a la escuela; El 38% dice que no tiene suficientes computadoras en casa para el aprendizaje remoto.

Henry R. Munoz, III, cofundador de SOMOS US y fundador de Momento Latino, dijo que cada vez que el grupo ha realizado esta encuesta, “hemos descubierto que la atención médica es el tema principal para los votantes latinos, por lo que no es de extrañar que estén moviendo su apoyo detrás del candidato que tiene un historial de expandirlo para sus comunidades. Los latinos serán el margen de la victoria este año”.

La encuesta encontró que el impacto dispar que están experimentando los latinos en los frentes económico y de salud también se extiende al ámbito de la educación. Los hogares latinos están preocupados por los planes de regreso a la escuela que se les han presentado. Más del 80% se preocupa por la seguridad tanto de los niños como del personal que regresa a la escuela en persona. Casi 8 de cada 10 están preocupados de que sus hijos se estén quedando atrás académicamente debido al aprendizaje a distancia, y el 84% dijo que su escuela aún no había brindado asistencia tecnológica.

El aprendizaje remoto tampoco es una opción para muchos latinos. Cuando se les realizó una encuesta, el 38% dijo que no había suficientes computadoras en el hogar para que sus hijos las usaran para la educación en línea y el 36% dijo que no habría un adulto en el hogar para supervisar.

La desaprobación de los latinos por el manejo de la pandemia por parte del presidente se está intensificando: el 70% lo desaprueba en comparación con el 56% en mayo. En una escala del 1 al 10, el nivel de confianza de Trump ha caído de 3,3 a 3,1 desde mayo. La encuesta encontró que la mitad de todos los latinos han perdido ingresos debido a recortes salariales, pérdida de empleo y/o tener que cerrar un negocio de su propiedad.

Hoy en día, el 69% de los votantes latinos registrados dicen que seguramente votarán, en comparación con el 62% en mayo. Sin embargo, el 64% de los votantes latinos registrados no han sido contactados por ningún partido, candidatos o grupos cívicos para registrarse o votar en noviembre.

• Florida: 55% Biden – 41% Trump
• Carolina del Norte: 61% Biden – 24% Trump
• Pensilvania: 59% Biden – 28% Trump.

En Texas, Biden le lleva a Trump entre un 66% y un 21%. Tanto en el área de Nueva York / NJ como en California, Biden tiene un 70% de apoyo de los latinos.

Latinos blame Trump for failed COVID-19 response

New York, NY – A new nationwide poll of Latinos in the United States released by SOMOS US, UnidosUS and Latino Decisions found that 66% of Latinos would vote for former Vice President Joe Biden compared to 24% for President Donald Trump. The poll, which was conducted between August 7 and August 15, also found that Latinos are increasingly blaming Trump for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 50% know someone who has gotten sick; 10% know someone who has died; more than 80% worry about safety of children and staff returning to school; 38% say they don’t have enough computers in the home for remote learning.

Henry R. Munoz, III, SOMOS US Cofounder and Founder of Momento Latino, said that every time the group has conducted this poll, “we have found that healthcare is the chief issue for Latino voters so it’s no surprise that they are moving their support behind the candidate that has a history of expanding it for their communities. Latinos will be the margin of victory this year.”

The poll found that the disparate impact Latinos are experiencing on the economic and health fronts also extends to the education arena. Latino households are concerned about the back-to-school plans they have been presented with. More than 80% worry about the safety of both children and staff returning to a school facility in person. Nearly 8 in 10 are worried that their kids are falling behind academically due to distance learning, and 84% said their school had yet to provide technological assistance.

Remote learning isn’t an option for many Latinos either. When polled, 38% said that there weren’t enough computers in the home for their children to use for online schooling and 36% said that there wouldn’t be an adult in the home to supervise.

Latino disapproval of the President’s handling of the pandemic is intensifying: 70% disapprove up from 56% disapproval in May. On a scale of 1-10, Trump’s trust level has fallen from 3.3 to 3.1 since May. The poll found that fully half of all Latinos have lost income due to pay cuts, job loss, and/or having to close a business they own.

Today, 69% of Latino registered voters say they are certain to vote, compared with 62% in May. Yet, 64% of Latino registered voters have not been contacted by either party, candidates or civic groups about registering or voting this November.

Biden leads in double-digits with Latinos in key battleground states:

• Arizona: 63% Biden – 29% Trump
• Colorado: 71% Biden – 21% Trump
• Florida: 55% Biden – 41% Trump
• North Carolina: 61% Biden – 24% Trump
• Pennsylvania: 59% Biden – 28% Trump

In Texas, Biden leads Trump 66% to 21%. In both the New York/NJ area and California, Biden has 70% support of Latinos.

In conducting the poll, the invitation to participate and the survey were both available in English or Spanish, and overall, 36% of respondents answered in Spanish.
