El teatro político de Trump ante el Covid-19 / Trump’s deadly political theater

Para el presidente Donald Trump, hasta contraer el Covid-19 se convierte en un teatro político, donde sigue sin importarle el bienestar de quienes están a su alrededor para seguir agregándole capítulos al reality show que es su presidencia.

Casi 210,000 estadounidenses, un gran porcentaje de ellos hispanos y afroamericanos, han muerto por este virus, sin contar con el lujo, como Trump, de recibir trato preferencial en el Centro Médico Militar Nacional Walter Reed, gracias a quienes sí pagamos impuestos, contrario a Trump, y con acceso a tratamientos experimentales que un ciudadano común no podría costear aunque quisiera.

Desde que comenzó la saga del Covid de Trump lo único que ha hecho la Casa Blanca es ocultar no solo el verdadero estado clínico del presidente, sino las fechas y cómo, a pesar de haber estado expuesto al letal virus, siguió haciendo eventos de campaña y de recaudación de fondos, exponiendo quién sabe a cuántos incautos que por alguna razón pensaron que el presidente y la Casa Blanca eran inmunes al Coronavirus.

Trump, a toda costa, quería evadir el tema del Covid y de la negligencia de su gobierno en el manejo de la pandemia, pero terminó infectado, de manera que ahora se trata de cómo sacar ventaja política del asunto.

Así, Trump, que quiere dar esta imagen de invencible, a quien ni siquiera el Covid puede tumbar, decidió sacar partido de su estadía en el hospital. Primero vinieron las fotos de él firmando papeles en blanco, haciendo creer que estaba trabajando. Una estrategia que suelen emplear los caudillos cuando comienza a regarse como pólvora que están enfermos, incapacitados o al borde de la muerte. Algo más común en Rusia o en Corea del Norte que en Estados Unidos.

Y luego, decide dar una vueltita en el vehículo presidencial herméticamente sellado, para “saludar” a sus fieles seguidores que se han apostado en los alrededores del hospital para darle apoyo. Se pueden apreciar al interior del vehículo dos agentes del Servicio Secreto con mascarillas, y muchos dirán que el trabajo de ese Servicio Secreto es transportar al presidente de un punto A a un punto B seguro, pero es su misión cuando es necesario transportarlo. Pero la vueltita de Trump infectado de Covid no era necesaria. Trump solo lo hizo por su ego, para demostrar que sigue en pie, así exponga a los agentes y, en consecuencia, a sus familias.

Claro está que a Trump le urge el teatro porque llevaba meses burlándose de su rival demócrata, Joe Biden, por usar mascarilla. Biden, a quien Trump quizá también expuso pues se reveló que el martes, cuando se llevó a cabo el primer debate presidencial, Trump seguramente ya estaba infectado, no quiso usar mascarilla y ni él ni su familia se sometieron a la prueba del Covid al llegar a la sede del debate.

Trump se ha dedicado a tildar a Biden de senil y de carecer de energía, y se ha burlado del exvicepresidente por protegerse a sí mismo y a los demás utilizando mascarillas.

Tampoco le habrá sentado bien escuchar la cobertura noticiosa que lo describe como un hombre de 74 años, obeso y con condiciones cardiacas que está entre los grupos de mayor riesgo. En consecuencia, la demostración de fuerza.

Es decir, este presidente sabía cuán letal es este virus y se dedicó a minimizarlo por fines político-electorales. Le han importado un comino las casi 210,000 muertes, muchas de las cuales pudieron evitarse tomando medidas precautorias más restrictivas antes de marzo, cuando él tenía conocimiento de que nos enfrentábamos a un virus asesino.

Hay personas que se han contagiado tomando todas las precauciones y otros, como médicos y enfermeras, que han muerto en el cumplimiento de su labor de ayudar a otros. Retar las guías básicas ha sido un acto de arrogancia e irresponsabilidad de este presidente. (America’s Voice)

Trump’s deadly political theater

TULSA, OK — For President Donald Trump, contracting Covid-19 has become political theater, where he feigns to care about the well-being of those around him while he continues adding chapters to the reality show that is his presidency.

Almost 210,000 Americans, a large percentage of them Hispanics and African Americans, have died of this virus, without the luxury, like Trump, of receiving preferential treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, thanks to those who do pay taxes, contrary to Trump, and with access to experimental treatments that an ordinary citizen could not afford even if they wanted to.

Since the Trump Covid saga began, the only thing the White House has done is hide not only the president’s true clinical status, but the dates and how, despite having been exposed to the deadly virus, he continued to hold campaign events and fundraising, exposing who knows how many dupes who for some reason thought the President and the White House were immune to the Coronavirus.

Trump, at all costs, wanted to evade the issue of Covid and his government’s negligence in handling the pandemic, but he ended up infected, so now it is a question of how to take political advantage of the matter.

Thus, Trump, who wants to give the image of invincibility, which not even the Covid can overthrow, decided to take advantage of his stay in the hospital. First came the photos of him signing blank papers, pretending he was working. A strategy that despots often use when it begins to spread like wildfire that they are sick, incapacitated or on the verge of death. Something more common in Russia or North Korea than in the United States.

And then, he decides to take a ride in the hermetically sealed presidential vehicle, to “greet” his loyal followers who have been stationed around the hospital to give him support. Two Secret Service agents with masks can be seen inside the vehicle, and many will say that the job of the Secret Service is to transport the president from point A to point B safely, but it is their mission when it is necessary to transport him. But the joy ride of Trump infected with Covid was not necessary. Trump only did it for his ego, to show that he is still standing, thus exposing the agents and, consequently, their families.

Of course, Trump is encouraged by the theater because he had been mocking his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, for months for wearing a mask. Biden, whom Trump may also have exposed as it was revealed that on Tuesday, when the first presidential debate took place, Trump was probably already infected, he did not want to wear a mask and neither he nor his family underwent the Covid test upon arrival to the scene of the debate.

Trump has been calling Biden senile and lacking energy, and has mocked the former vice president for protecting himself and others by wearing face masks.

Nor would it have sat well with him to hear the news coverage that describes him as a 74-year-old, obese man with heart conditions who is among the highest risk groups. Consequently, the show of force.

In other words, this president knew how lethal this virus is and he dedicated himself to minimizing it for political-electoral purposes. He didn’t give a damn about the nearly 210,000 deaths, many of which could have been avoided by taking more restrictive precautionary measures before March, when he learned we were facing a killer virus.

There are people who have been infected despite taking all the precautions and others, such as doctors and nurses, who have died in the fulfillment of their work to help others. Challenging the basic guidelines has been an act of arrogance and irresponsibility by this president. (America’s Voice)
