Homenaje a ganadores del concurso de poesía juvenil / Youth poetry contest winners honored

Tulsa, OK – Los ganadores del concurso de poesía bilingüe de septiembre fueron homenajeados el pasado fin de semana. El concurso mensual de poesía se llevó a cabo del 15 al 25 de septiembre y la ceremonia de premiación se llevó a cabo el sábado 10 de octubre en Supermercados Morelos, ubicado en 12920 E. 31st St.

Los estudiantes de TPS de tercero a quinto grado escribieron poemas conmovedores sobre cómo el COVID-19 ha impactado sus vidas.

El COVID-19 nos hace sentir de muchas maneras, y eso incluye a los más jóvenes entre nosotros. Ya sea que se quede atrapado en casa, no pueda ver amigos o vaya a la escuela de manera virtual, el COVID ha presentado sus propios desafíos para los jóvenes.

“Sí, los niños son resistentes, pero eso no significa que no estén sufriendo o que no tengan nada que decir al respecto. Lo más importante es que este concurso está destinado a celebrar sus voces y darles algo para emocionarse por este año escolar ”, dijo Margarita Vega, de Vega & Treviño Consultants.

Vega y Francisco Treviño, esposo de Vega y socio comercial, quienes conectan negocios con oportunidades de retribución en la comunidad, estaban perdidos después del COVID-19. La mayoría de estas oportunidades ocurren en las escuelas, a través de la participación o retribución a los estudiantes, sus familias, maestros y administradores.

Treviño es también el director de la Casa de la Cultura, una organización cuya misión es promover y fomentar las artes y la cultura hispanas. La Casa de la Cultura también es una organización colaboradora del concurso. A través del concurso mensual de poesía, los estudiantes de TPS en los grados 3 al 5, podrán ganar no solo premios en efectivo proporcionados por Sooner Millworks y Renovations, sino también tabletas para el 1er y 2do lugar otorgado por Supermercados Morelos y Cell Phone Hospital, y comidas gratis de Casa Tequila Mexican Kitchen.

“Los premios mensuales serán difíciles a partir de ahora, por lo tanto, es genial ver a la comunidad comprometida en recompensar y alentar a los estudiantes”, dijo Vega. “En TPS apoyamos la inclusión, por eso nos encanta la idea de que este sea un concurso bilingüe”.

Los jueces de este año incluyeron a Yobana Ruíz, directora de marketing de Supermercados Morelos, Gitzel Puente, especialista en comunicaciones de la ciudad de Tulsa, y Maricarmen Mitchell, gerente de servicios comunitarios en las escuelas públicas de Tulsa.

Los ganadores de este mes son:

1er lugar: “The COVID Song” por Aedan Coffey, Zarrow Elementary, 5º grado.

2do lugar: “COVID-19 en Mi Vida” de Irvin L., Primaria Lindbergh, 5º grado.

3er lugar: “Everyone” por Remy Rattan, Eisenhower International, 4º grado.

Youth poetry contest winners honored

Tulsa, OK – The winners of September’s bilingual poetry contest were honored this past weekend. The Monthly Poetry Contest ran from September 15 through September 25, and the awards ceremony was held on Saturday, October 10 at Supermercados Morelos, located at 12920 E. 31st St.

TPS students in 3rd -5th grades wrote heartfelt poems about how COVID-19 has impacted their lives.

COVID-19 has us feeling all kinds of ways, and that includes the youngest among us. Whether it’s being stuck at home, unable to see friends, or doing school online, COVID has presented its own challenges for youth.

“Yes, children are resilient, but that doesn’t mean they’re not hurting or that they don’t have anything to say on the matter. Most importantly, this contest is meant to celebrate their voices and to give them something to get excited about this school year,” said Margarita Vega, with Vega & Treviño Consultants.

Vega and Francisco Treviño, Vega’s husband and business partner, who connect businesses with opportunities to give back in the community, were at a loss after COVID-19. Most of these opportunities happen at the schools, by way of participating or giving back to students, their families, and teachers and administrators.

Treviño is also the Director of Casa de la Cultura, an organization whose mission is to promote and foster Hispanic Arts and Culture. Casa de la Cultura is also a partner organization for the contest. Through the Monthly Poetry Contest, TPS students in grades 3rd through 5th, will be able to win not only cash prizes provided by Sooner Millworks and Renovations, but also tablets for 1st and 2nd place awarded by Supermercados Morelos and Cell Phone Hospital, and free meals from Casa Tequila Mexican Kitchen.

“Monthly awards will be difficult from now on, hence, it’s great to see the community vested in rewarding and encouraging students,” said Vega. “At TPS we support inclusivity, so we love the idea of this being a bilingual contest.”

This year’s judges included Yobana Ruíz, Marketing Director for Supermercados Morelos, Gitzel Puente, Communications Specialist at the City of Tulsa, and Maricarmen Mitchell, Manager of Community Services at Tulsa Public Schools.

This month’s winners are:
