Gael García Bernal entre los 25 mejores actores del siglo XXI

El actor mexicano de 41 años de edad figura en la lista en la que también aparecen otros dos latinoamericanos: Sônia María Campos Braga, de Brasil, y Óscar Isaac, de Guatemala

El actor y cineasta mexicano Gael García Bernal fue incluido en la lista de los mejores 25 histriones del siglo XXI, de acuerdo con los críticos especializados de The New York Times.

García Bernal aparece en el puesto número 25 y es el único mexicano en la lista. En la publicación también están otros dos actores latinoamericanos: Sônia María Campos Braga, de Brasil, y Óscar Isaac, de Guatemala.

Para la Manohla Dargis la pieza clave para que Gael García se colara hasta la cima del éxito internacional fue filmar un par de películas con Alfonso Cuarón (Y tu mamá también) y Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores perros), pues allí demostró su capacidad actoral. “Tenía magnetismo en pantalla y un rostro que no podías dejar de ver. Fusionaba con sutileza la belleza femenina y masculina”, describió.

Dargis también destacó otros papeles que interpretó el mexicano: el Che Guevara en Diarios de motocicleta, de Walter Salles, y Zahara en La mala educación, de Pedro Almodóvar. Sobre este último, la periodista dijo: “Le dio más profundidad a su imagen pública con una mancha de labial y una frialdad psicológica que causó un nuevo revuelo”.

Por su parte, el crítico A. O. Scott destacó su participación en la película chilena No, de Pablo Larraín, en la que interpreta a René Saavedra. La cinta fue nominada a un Oscar como Mejor Película Extranjera en 2013.

En ella, Scott asegura que se puede ver a un Gael García que “tiene onda, pero no es intimidante; es apuesto, pero accesible; es gracioso, pero sin llegar a ser odioso; es seguro de sí mismo, pero no es fanfarrón”.

Gael García Bernal nació en 1978 en la ciudad de Guadalajara. Tiene 41 años de edad. Sus primeros trabajos fueron para la televisión abierta nacional en la telenovela El abuelo y yo.

Más adelante ganó diversos premios como el Globo de Oro al Mejor Actor de Televisión por el proyecto Mozart In The Jungle de Amazon Studios, en la que interpretó a un director de orquestas inspirado en el venezolano Gustavo Dudamel. Además recibió un premio Ariel como Mejor Actor por la película Amores Perros.

También fue nominado al BAFTA por su papel en Diarios de motocicleta, un premio Goya por la película Sin noticias de Dios, un premio ACE de Nueva York, entre otros.

Además de su carrera como actor, también ha colaborado en diversos proyectos como productor y como director. La última cinta a su cargo fue Chicuarotes, en 2019, con guión de Augusto Mendoza.
