Atasco de grandes estrenos buscará sitio en 2021

Hollywood tiene atasco de estrenos. Si la vida siguiera siendo analógica, torres y torres de celuloide se amontonarían en sus almacenes esperando el momento de llegar a los cines.

Ahora la realidad es digital, pero el problema es el mismo: La pandemia ha obligado a posponer la gran mayoría de superproducciones de 2020, que deberán buscar su hueco en un 2021 muy esperado por los cinéfilos.

La última aventura de James Bond aplazada desde la primavera pasada, la cuarta entrega de «Matrix», el debut de Lebron James en la secuela de «Space Jam», la versión actualizada de «Dune» y el regreso de Wes Anderson son solo algunos de los estrenos planeados para el nuevo año, una temporada que nace bajo una gran incertidumbre y en la que nadie sabe cuándo será seguro volver a abarrotar los cines.

¿Veremos la nueva «West Side Story» en el cine o en nuestras casas? La revisión del mítico musical podría tener asegurada su proyección en la gran pantalla porque no se estrenará hasta las próximas navidades pero el camino no está igual de despejado para «James Bond: No Time To Die» (abril), «Black Widow» (mayo), «Fast and Furious 9» (mayo) o «Jurassic World: Dominion» (junio).

Para arrojar un poco de luz en este laberinto, Warner Bros. ha sido el estudio más rápido en mover ficha, pues a lo largo de 2021 y hasta que el coronavirus dé tregua todas sus películas se estrenarán a la vez en cines y en «streaming». Un golpe prácticamente mortal para las salas con el que se ha asegurado que dará salida a sus filmes.

«STREAMING», ALIADO DE LOS ESTUDIOS Y ENEMIGO DE LOS CINES

Hasta ahora ningún estudio, salvo Netflix, se había atrevido a estrenar al mismo tiempo una superproducción en cines e internet. Se respetaba escrupulosamente la famosa «ventana de distribución» en la que las cintas esperaban tres meses antes de llegar al mercado doméstico. La estrategia de los primeros fue puntual, la de los segundos supuso la inauguración del método por el que HBO Max acogerá todas las películas del estudio en 2021: «Godzilla vs. Kong», «In the Heights», «Space Jam: A New Legacy», «The Suicide Squad», «Dune» y «Matrix 4», entre otras.

El mismo día que lleguen a los cines (a los pocos abiertos), estarán disponibles en el servicio de «streaming» durante 30 días. Lo curioso es que, ya comenzado el 2021, HBO Max sigue siendo un producto exclusivo de EE.UU. que tiene previsto inaugurarse en Europa y Latinoamérica a lo largo del año, pero ya se ha garantizado una promoción descomunal para robar algo de mercado a Netflix.

En la otra cara de la moneda está Disney. El gigante del entretenimiento ha sido menos drástico y sigue apostando fuerte por los cines. De momento solo ha estrenado «Mulan» y Soul» a través de Disney+. Y la primera a cambio de unos nada despreciables 30 dólares como cargo extra.

Su próxima película, «Raya and the Last Dragon», seguirá el modelo de «Mulan» en marzo y a partir de ahí… ya se verá. De momento los fans de Marvel verán «Black Widow (mayo) y «The Eternals» (noviembre) en el cine, según los planes de la compañía. También la visita de Pixar a la Riviera Italiana con «Luca» (junio) y el viaje a Colombia de «Encanto» (noviembre) mantienen su estreno exclusivo en la gran pantalla. Lo mismo que el «Jungle Cruise» (julio) de Dwayne Johnson y Emily Blunt.

UN AÑO DE «REMAKES» Y SAGAS HISTÓRICAS

Plataformas sí, plataformas no, la obsesión de Hollywood por dar nueva vida a sus clásicos seguirá intacta. En 2021 llegará una nueva versión de «West Side Story» bajo la dirección de Steven Spielberg y no será la única joya del séptimo arte que se renovará.

Tras «Blade Runner 2049», Denis Villeneuve volverá a los clásicos de la ciencia-ficción con una nueva «Dune» protagonizada por los más granado del Hollywood actual, Timothée Chamalet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem y Charlotte Rampling.
