Francisco Treviño lanza un nuevo disco. “Hoy aumenta mi fe”, el tercer álbum del artista, se lanzará el 11 de febrero de 2021 y es diferente a los álbumes anteriores de Treviño, que estaban dirigidos principalmente a los niños.

“Hoy aumenta mi fe”, o “Today My Faith Increases”, es una expresión de la vida espiritual de Treviño, algo que surgió, en parte, de los graves problemas de salud que tanto él como su esposa enfrentaron en los últimos años.

“En 2015 comencé a escribir algunas canciones espirituales cuando mi esposa tenía cáncer”, dijo Treviño a La Semana. “Y luego, en 2016, me hospitalizaron y estuve allí durante 15 días. Después de que salí, varias canciones surgieron de esa experiencia, incluido `Hoy aumenta mi fe´, la canción principal del nuevo álbum”.

Más tarde ese año Treviño lanzó dos de las nuevas canciones en un concierto anual que presentó en la iglesia católica St. Thomas More. Pero los problemas de salud de Treviño aún no habían quedado atrás, en 2017 sufrió un derrame cerebral, que afectó negativamente su capacidad para tocar la guitarra. Pero con mucho trabajo, terapia y quizás un poco de intervención divina, no solo pudo organizar el concierto de ese año, también pudo cantar y tocar su amado instrumento. Esa noche se compartieron con el público más canciones que finalmente terminarían en su nuevo disco ´Hoy aumenta mi fe´.

Avanzamos rápido hasta el año de la pandemia, y Treviño se encontró con un tesoro de material y el tiempo para completar su primer álbum de música para adultos. Para él, la decisión de convertirlo en un álbum de canciones espirituales fue fácil.

“Un amigo me preguntó por qué no escribía canciones de amor”, recuerda. “Pero cualquiera puede escribir canciones de amor, y una vez que las escuchas, las olvidas. Pero cuando una canción tiene un mensaje, creo que la gente lo recordará”.

El resultado es una colección bellamente producida de ocho canciones, seis en español y dos en inglés, que son viñetas de las relaciones de Treviño con Dios y con la comunidad de fe de la que ha formado parte desde que comenzó a tocar la guitarra en la misa en la iglesia original de nuestra señora de Guadalupe hace 19 años.

“Estas canciones son del corazón”, dijo Treviño. “Quería que tuvieran un impacto en la vida de otras personas”.

Y está claro que la vida de las personas tiene un impacto en Treviño y también en su música, como es el caso de la canción `Hoy me entegro a ti´.

“Hoy me entegro a ti es una canción acerca de entregar la vida’”, explicó. “Es una canción sobre lo que veo cuando la gente va a la iglesia. Realmente están entregando sus vidas a Dios, a la virgen María, y son muy devotos en la iglesia”.

Además de ser un cambio lírico de los dos álbumes infantiles que Treviño grabó a mediados de los noventa, `Hoy aumenta mi fe´ también difiere musicalmente. Las melodías y las estructuras de las canciones son un puente entre culturas, con toques de artistas como Peter Gabriel presentes en los arreglos. Además de escribir todas las canciones, Treviño canta, toca el teclado, la guitarra y numerosos instrumentos nativos. Lo acompañan en el álbum las vocalistas Blanca Rosales y Mora Velázquez, junto con Alex Esquivel al piano y el colaborador de toda la vida de Treviño, Hugo Saucedo, al violín.

Francisco Treviño is releasing a new album. Hoy Aumenta Mi Fe, the artist’s third album, is set for release on February 11, 2021 and is a departure from Treviño’s earlier albums, which were geared primarily towards children.

Hoy Aumenta Mi Fe, or Today My Faith Increases, is an expression of Treviño’s spiritual life, something that grew, in part, from serious health issues both he and his wife faced in recent years.

“In 2015 I started writing some spiritual songs when my wife had cancer,” Treviño told La Semana. “And then in 2016 I got hospitalized and I was in there for 15 days. After I got out, several songs came out of that experience, including Hoy Aumenta Mi Fe, the title track of the new album.”

Later that year Treviño debuted two of the new songs at an annual concert he presents at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. But Treviño’s health problems were not yet behind him – in 2017 he suffered a stroke, which adversely impacted his ability to play the guitar. But with a lot of hard work, therapy, and perhaps a bit of divine intervention, he not only was able to organize that year’s concert, he was able to sing and play his beloved instrument as well. More songs that would ultimately wind up on Hoy Aumenta Mi Fe were shared with the audience that night.

Fast forward to the year of the pandemic, and Treviño found himself with a treasure trove of material and the time to complete his first album of music for adults. For him, the decision to make it an album of spiritual songs was an easy one.

“A friend asked why I didn’t write love songs, ‘hits’,” he recalled. “But anyone can write love songs, and once you’ve heard them you forget them. But when a song has a message, I think people will remember it.”

The result is a beautifully produced collection of eight songs – six in Spanish and two in English – that are vignettes of Treviño’s relationships with God and with the community of faith he has been a part of since he first began playing guitar at mass at the original Our Lady of Guadalupe church 19 years ago.

“These songs are from the heart,” Treviño said. “I wanted them to have an impact on other people’s lives.”

And it is clear that people’s lives have an impact on Treviño and his music as well, as is the case with the song Hoy Me Entegro a Ti.

“Hoy Me Entegro a Ti is a song about ‘I’m giving my life to you,’” he explained. “It’s a song about what I see when people go to church. They really are giving their lives to God, to the Virgin Mary, and they’re very devoted at church.”

As well as being a change lyrically from the two children’s albums Treviño recorded in the mid 1990s, Hoy Aumenta Mi Fe differs musically as well. The melodies and song structures are a bridge between cultures, with hints of artists such as Peter Gabriel present in the arrangements. In addition to writing all the songs, Treviño sings, plays keyboards, guitar, and numerous native instruments. Accompanying him on the album are vocalists Blanca Rosales and Mora Velazquez, along with Alex Esquivel on piano and Treviño’s longtime collaborator, Hugo Saucedo, on violin.
