A FC Tulsa no lo para ni la pandemia / FC Tulsa can’t be stopped, not even by Covid 19
¡a divertirse!”, espetó Cannon. La Semana dirá presente, ¿Y tu?
FC Tulsa can’t be stopped, not even by Covid 19

Tulsa, OK- Recently, La Semana had the chance of visiting ONEOK Field, the current house of FC Tulsa and chatted with James Cannon, the team, manager, about the challenges faced by the premier soccer team in the city, whose debut was almost eclipsed by the pandemic.
“We started the season in January 2020 with a lot of enthusiasm, we tied a game in Sacramento and then Covid started. We had to adapt, just like the rest,” said Cannon.
But not even Covid was able to stop the fate of FC Tulsa, which despite playing only 8 games from the original 16 made it to the playoffs.
“Last season and the results we got allowed us to build a solid network of fans, which is the base that the team needs to move forward,” explained Cannon. “Unfortunately, we had to reduce the capacity of our stadium to 25% and that hit us hard. But we were able to deliver our product through TV streaming, which gave us a sound audience.”
This year FC Tulsa wants not only to have all the victories they can possibly get in the world of soccer, but also to be able to win a secure place in the hearts of the Tulsa community, and especially be able to conquer once and for all the hearts and minds of the city’s Latinx population.
Half of the team pledges allegiance to a Latin American flag, with players representing a variety of Latin nations like El Salvador, Brazil and Honduras. This is the reason why Cannon cannot wait to breathe a bit of “sabor Latino” on and off the field, and decided to participate more actively in the community, host more events and festivals and collaborate with all the Hispanic media to achieve this goal.
Soon FC Tulsa will start developing its own seedbed; with the help of the local clubs and recreational institutions the youngest in society will be able to join the lines of FC and sign an academic contract.
“We are about to announce our Path to Pro program, in which we will work with all the competitive sports institutions in the area so that they can send their players to FC Tulsa,” Cannon said. “We have already signed up two teenagers this year. These players will keep their college eligibility but will gain the experience of having played on a professional team.”
At the same time the club is trying to leave its footprint in Tulsa by promoting soccer in the most unprivileged areas of the city.
“In North Tulsa, with the collaboration of the Dream Center, we are organizing a soccer league for those kids that want to practice sports after school,” Cannon said.
FC Tulsa is ready to start a new season full of successes. The team looks in great shape, new members were added to complete the defensive lines and the wing men look promising.
“We are super strong and ready to make many goals and climb up on the position table,” Cannon predicted.
But FC Tulsa is also ready to enter the lives of all the residents of Tulsa, with the grand opening of their official store and an active role on every city festival.
The best soccer in town will be back on April 17th and Janes Cannon, on behalf of FC Tulsa, invites us all to join the party. Cannon urged Tulsans to come to root for our team, to see your paisanos, and to have fun. La Semana will be there, what about you? (La Semana)
