QUITO.- Al menos 8 personas murieron y otras 20 resultaron heridas en un accidente de un autobús de pasajeros ocurrido este sábado en la zona andina de Papallacta, unos 40 kilómetros al este de Quito, informó el Cuerpo de Bomberos de la capital.

Papallacta es una localidad turística y uno de los sitios más altos de una carretera que une la sierra andina y la selva amazónica.

El sitio del accidente corresponde a una zona de la cordillera en la que se han registrado en el pasado varios accidentes de tráfico, algunos de ellos de autobuses de pasajeros que cubren el trayecto entre la capital y la zona amazónica del norte del país. EFE

At least 8 dead and 20 injured in bus accident in Ecuador

QUITO.- At least 8 people died and another 20 were injured in an accident involving a passenger bus that occurred this Saturday in the Andean area of Papallacta, about 40 kilometers east of Quito, reported the Fire Department of the capital.

Papallacta is a tourist town and one of the highest places on a highway that connects the Andean highlands and the Amazon rainforest.

The accident site corresponds to an area of the mountain range in which several traffic accidents have been registered in the past, some of them involving passenger buses that cover the route between the capital and the Amazon area in the north of the country.
