Las Águilas de Oro se dirigen invictas al Torneo del Campeonato Nacional NAIA.

Lauren Walter anotó su octavo gol de la temporada en la segunda mitad del encuentro ante Oklahoma Wesleyan para  que JBU se llevara la victoria por marcador de 2- 1 el sábado (17 de abril) por la tarde en Alumni Field. El triunfo ante el equipo vecino le permite a las Aguilar Doradas llegar invictas  a la final de la Ronda de Apertura del Campeonato Nacional NAIA.

Lauren Walter dijo “honestamente no pensé que anotaría un gol, somos un buen equipo que trabaja en conjunto emocionalmente dentro y fuera de la cancha y no importa quien anota los goles, y me siento muy orgullosa del equipo.

Ahora tenemos que estar preparados para el campeonato nacional física, mental, y emocionalmente, tenemos que asegurarnos que todos estamos en la misma pagina

Gifte Pavatt anotó su segundo de la temporada, a solo 5:56 de iniciado el partido. Gran actuación por parte de la guardameta Caitlyn Logan quien logro seis salvadas el segundo mejor equipo ofensivo de la nación.

Gifte Pavatt dijo “el resultado es gracias al esfuerzo en equipo, todos trabajamos duro y los goles llegan cuando se trabaja en conjunto y hoy esta la muestra en el resultado.

La entrenadora Paulsen siempre nos pide que demos todo lo nuestro y lo dejemos en la cancha, y es lo que haremos en el campeonato nacional.”

La máxima anotadora de la nación, Marjolen Nekesa, también hizo acto de presencia, anotando su gol numero 36 de la temporada. La anotación le dio el empate a OK Wesleyan en el minuto 32, pero no fue suficiente y  OKWU sufrió derrota con sabor a revancha para JBU. 

Las Águilas Doradas se enfrentarán a la octava cabeza de serie Metodista Central (Missouri) el martes (27 de abril) a la 1 p.m. en Foley, Ala. 

El ganador del partido se enfrentara al máximo favorito del torneo, William Carey (Miss.) Dos días después, el jueves a la 1 p.m. en los cuartos de final de el Campeonato Nacional de la NAIA.

Freshman Lauren Walter’s eighth goal of the season broke open a second half deadlock, and the No. 11 John Brown University women’s soccer team staved off the high-powered offense of No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan to hold on to a 2-1 full-time victory on Saturday (April 17) afternoon at Alumni Field in the NAIA National Championships Opening Round final.

Lauren Walter said “Honestly I did not think I was going to score today, all of us really work well together on and off the field, and at the end of the day, whoever can put it away, whoever can get the job done, honestly we are so talented, and I am so proud of all of my teammates. Getting recovery is going to be crucial for us for the national tournament, regrouping together physically, emotional, and mentally. We have to make sure that we are in the same page together.”

Freshman Gifte Pavatt netted a goal, her second of the season, just 5:56 into the contest, while senior Caitlyn Logan played a spectacular match between the three posts, totaling six saves against the nation’s second-best offense, which averaged 4.7 goals per game entering the contest. John Brown (14-0-0) has now won two matches in a single NAIA National Championships series for the first time in program history. “We played as a team and everyone work hard, the goal came due to the hard work done as a team.” Said Gifte Pavatt.

While both teams fired seven shots on target, Wesleyan (18-3-0) finished with a slight 17-15 shooting advantage in the contest. The nation’s leading scorer, Marjolen Nekesa also made an appearance, scoring her 36th of the season to tie the match at one in the 32nd minute, but beyond that, the John Brown back line suffocated the OKWU scoring machine.

The Golden Eagles, which are the ninth-highest seed remaining, will take on the eight seed Central Methodist (Mo.) on Tuesday (April 27) at 1 p.m. The clash will happen at the Foley Sports Tourism Championship Field in Foley, Ala.

The winner of the second round match will advance to face the field’s top seed, William Carey (Miss.) two days later on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the national quarterfinals.
