TULSA, OK — A primera vista, Annelise Gonzales puede parecer la típica estudiante de secundaria, pero quienes conocen a esta enérgica adolescente comprenden que es, en muchos sentidos, un modelo a seguir para sus compañeros y para otros estudiantes hispanos.

Ávida jugadora de fútbol desde los cuatro años, Gonzales es una delantera que juega en el West Side Alliance. Suele marcar al menos un gol en cada partido, y a menudo más.

Al preguntarle por qué le gusta jugar al fútbol, Gonzales dijo: “Simplemente me apasiona. Me encanta jugar y me encanta conocer a otras personas”.

Está orgullosa de participar en un deporte en el que otras latinas están bien representadas.

“Hay muchas jugadoras hispanas, y son jugadoras fantásticas”, dijo, “y he aprendido mucho de ellas. Son grandes modelos a seguir”.

Pero Gonzales, que estará en duodécimo grado este próximo semestre, no es sólo una estrella en el campo; también es una estudiante sobresaliente que dijo que la clave para obtener buenas notas es concentrarse en la tarea, escuchar a los profesores y prestar atención.

Al igual que lo hicieron sus padres, Gonzales tiene la ambición de cursar estudios superiores después de su graduación el próximo año.

“Probablemente empezaré en TCC para ocuparme de lo básico, y luego posiblemente me dedique a la Administración de Empresas”, dijo la estudiante a La Semana, añadiendo que mantiene sus opciones abiertas.

Gonzales dice que aunque no sepa exactamente cómo se desarrollará su futuro, hay algunas cosas de las que está segura.

“Voy a crecer y voy a ser una mujer fuerte”, predijo. “Pienso tener mi propio negocio, posiblemente de medicina deportiva”.

La joven cree en el valor del trabajo duro, pero dijo que hay una cosa que está por encima de todo.

“La familia es la clave de todo”, dijo Gonzales. “Necesitas a tu familia a tu alrededor para tener éxito”.

Al preguntarle qué consejo tiene para sus compañeros o para los miembros más jóvenes de su comunidad, Gonzales ofreció estas palabras de ánimo:

“Cualquiera que sea tu objetivo, empuja. Tengan a su familia alrededor, tengan otros amigos que sean buenos amigos y busquen buenos líderes que puedan empujarlos hacia esa meta. Sigue empujando y lo conseguirás”. (La Semana)

Annelise Gonzales – a star in sports and school

TULSA, OK — Annelise Gonzales may at first glance appear to be a typical high school student, but those who know the energetic teenager understand that she is in many ways a role model to her peers and to other Hispanic students.

An avid soccer player since the age of four, Gonzales is a striker who plays for West Side Alliance. She usually scores at least one goal in every match, and often more.

Asked why she enjoys playing soccer, Gonzales said, “I’m just passionate about it. I love playing, and I love the people I get to meet.”

She is proud to participate in a sport where other Latinas are well represented.

“There’s a lot of Hispanic players, and they’re fantastic players,” she said, “and I’ve learned a lot from them. They’re great role models.”

But Gonzales, who will be in twelfth grade this coming semester, isn’t just a star on the field; she’s also a straight A student who said the key to getting good grades is focusing on homework, listening to the teachers and paying attention.

Like her parents before her, Gonzales has ambitions to pursue higher education after her graduation next year.

“I’ll probably start at TCC to take care of the basics, then possibly go into Business Administration,” the student told La Semana, adding that she is keeping her options open.

Gonzales says that while she may not know exactly how her future will unfold, there are some things she is sure of.

“I’m going to grow and I’m going to be a strong woman,” she predicted. “I plan to own my own business, possibly in sports medicine.”

The young woman is a believer in the value of hard work, but she said there is one thing that comes before everything else.

“Family is the key to everything,” Gonzales said. “You need your family around you to succeed.”

Asked what advice she has for her peers or to the younger members of her community, Gonzales offered these words of encouragement:

“Whatever your goal is, just push it. Have your family around you, have other friends that are good friends and look for good leaders that can push you toward that goal. Just keep pushing and you’ll make it.” (La Semana)
