Tulsa, OK- Es bien sabido que los mexicanos que pisan suelo americano buscan un futuro mejor, uno en donde ser sus propios jefes es el sueño máximo y que muchas veces se logra con tesón y diligencia. En la industria gastronómica de Tulsa, los mexicanos siempre prosperan y nadie mejor para atestiguarlo que Refugio Flores Méndez, dueño de “Casa del Tequila”, un restaurante temático emplazado en la calle 6000 S Lewis Ave, en la ciudad de Tulsa.

Refugio huyó de su Guanajuato natal hace 25 años, el mismo tiempo que lleva en el negocio de los restaurantes.  “Siempre me gustó el restaurante desde que llegué en el 96, trabajé antes en construcción, pero no me gustó, comencé en Carolina del Norte y después llegué a Tulsa”, explicó.

Hoy, Casa del Tequila es uno de los restaurantes mexicanos más famosos de la ciudad, donde se pueden disfrutar los mejores platillos y un extenso catálogo de bebidas en un hermoso bar.

“Podríamos decir que nuestro negocio es un 60% de comida y un 40% de alcohol, nuestro bar está muy bonito y le hemos caído muy bien al cliente”, aseguró Refugio, aclarando que cuentan con todas las variedades posibles de tequila, para los paladares más exigentes.

Pero el sueño americano de Refugio costó caro, y aún espera el momento en el que pueda reunirse con sus dos hijos del otro lado de la frontera. “Entré indocumentado con el sueño americano por delante, y lo estamos consiguiendo, pero a veces sacrificamos una cosa para tener otra”, dijo sin tapujos, concentrándose en el trabajo para no pensar.

Casa del Tequila emplea a 22 personas, y tiene una capacidad única para resolver las demandas de los 180 comensales que los visitan cada día para gozar de los más ricos tacos al vapor y otras delicias mexicanas;  y todo funciona a la perfección, gracias a la administración de Refugio, cuyo trabajo es también una promesa, la del futuro de sus niños.

Mientras Refugio sueña con traer a sus hijos a estudiar a Estados Unidos, mira el restaurante y sabe que le queda chico. El próximo paso será expandirse para alojar a muchos más comensales, utilizando ese ingrediente mexicano extra que todo sabe bien cuando se condimenta el sabor y las ganas de salir adelante.

El tiempo se detiene por un segundo entre las incontables botellas de Tequila, y Refugio decide compartir un consejo útil para todos aquellos emprendedores en ciernes: “Si tienen alguna meta, traten de cumplirla porque con esfuerzo, trabajo y dedicación siempre se llega lejos”, y nada mejor que Casa del Tequila para atestiguarlo. Is well known that most Mexicans who come to the US are seeking a better quality of living, and above all, becoming their own bosses, something that almost all achieve through an exemplary working culture. In the restaurant business in Tulsa, Mexicans tend to thrive, and there is no one better than Refugio Flores Mendes, owner of “Casa del Tequila”, to prove it right.

Refugio flew away from his Guanajuato hometown 25 years ago, the same amount of time he has been around in the gastronomic business.

“I’ve always loved restaurants, I started working back in ‘96 in the construction industry, but did not like it, and started in North Carolina working at a restaurant and later I moved to Tulsa,” he explained.

Today, Casa del Tequila, located at 6000 S Lewis Ave, is one of the most prosperous restaurants in town, where you can enjoy the best Mexican delicacies and a vast menu of spirituous drinks at a lovely bar.

“We could say our business is 60% food and 40% alcohol; the bar is very cozy and people really like us,” said Refugio, highlighting that the bar offers almost every possible variety of tequila on the market.

But Refugio’s American dream didn’t come cheap, and now he waits anxiously for the moment in which he can meet with his children again.

“I came with no papers, with a dream ahead, and I am achieving it, I know it. But sometimes we sacrifice some things in order to get others,” he recognized, concentrating on his work to avoid having mixed feelings.

Casa del Tequila currently employs 22 people and offers its services to more than 180 clients every weekend, who enjoy their star dishes like chicken, shrimp, and beef tacos. Everything works around the clock at this restaurant thanks to the efforts of Refugio, whose work is like a promise, one that will allow him to share his future with his family.

While Refugio dreams of bringing his children to America, he watches his restaurant and knows it’s a bit small. The next step is to expand and be able to offer tables for more clients using the extra ingredients Mexicans have deep within, love and will, which always makes them move forward.

Time stops for one second among the hundred tequila bottles, and Refugio decides to share a piece of useful advice with those entrepreneurs who want to give this a try: “If you have a dream, try to make it come true, because with effort, work and dedication, you always get far.” (La Semana)
