Hombre de Sapulpa es condenado por abusar sexualmente de dos niños / Sapulpa Man Convicted of Sexually Abusing Two Children

TULSA, OK – Un jurado federal condenó el jueves a un hombre de Sapulpa por abusar sexualmente de dos víctimas menores de 12 años.

El jurado declaró a Andrew Lee Gibbs, de 64 años, culpable de contacto sexual abusivo de un menor en territorio indio y de abuso sexual agravado de un menor en territorio indio.

El jurado determinó que el 7 de marzo de 2021, Gibbs tocó a sabiendas a la primera víctima de manera sexual. Además, determinó que ese mismo día, el acusado abusó sexualmente de un segundo niño, que también era menor de 12 años. Después de las agresiones sexuales, uno de los niños se separó de Gibbs y acabó corriendo hacia un hombre en el estacionamiento de un restaurante, le dijo que el acusado había hecho un “toque inseguro” y le rogó que le ayudara.  El hombre, que resultó ser un agente especial de Homeland Security Investigations con 10 años de experiencia en delitos contra los niños, llamó entonces al 911. Gibbs no tardó en llegar, pero el niño le acusó de abuso. Se marchó y volvió unos minutos después con la madre del niño. Cuando ella se enteró del abuso, sacó a los demás niños de su vehículo.

Un entrevistador forense de abuso infantil habló más tarde con ambas víctimas, que declararon que Gibbs, un adulto en el que habían confiado, abusó sexualmente de ellas en su vehículo durante una excursión a un parque. Tras la visita al parque, Gibbs llevó a los niños a una tienda cercana, donde uno se escapó y buscó ayuda.

“Una víctima de Andrew Gibbs denunció valientemente sus actos depredadores y, junto con su hermana, testificó contra él ante el tribunal federal”, dijo el fiscal federal en funciones Clint Johnson. “Es extremadamente difícil para los niños revelar los detalles de sus abusos sexuales a cualquier persona, y mucho menos a una sala de tribunal de extraños. Felicito a las dos víctimas por su valor.  Cuando los niños denuncian los abusos, los adultos deben escuchar e informar a las autoridades”.

Gibbs sigue bajo custodia y será sentenciado el 18 de febrero de 2022.

El FBI y el Departamento de Policía de Tulsa llevaron a cabo la investigación. Las fiscales adjuntas Valeria Luster y Chantelle D. Dial son las encargadas de procesar el caso.

Sapulpa Man Convicted of Sexually Abusing Two Children

TULSA, OK — A federal jury convicted a Sapulpa man Thursday of sexually abusing two victims who were under the age of 12.

The jury found Andrew Lee Gibbs, 64, guilty of abusive sexual contact of a minor in Indian Country and aggravated sexual abuse of a minor in Indian Country.

The jury found that on March 7, 2021, Gibbs knowingly touched the first victim in a sexual manner. They further found that on the same day, the defendant sexually abused a second child, who was also under the age of 12. After the sexual assaults, one of the children broke away from Gibbs, and eventually ran up to a man in a restaurant parking lot, told him that the defendant did an “unsafe touch,” and begged the man for help.  The man, who happened to be a Homeland Security Investigations special agent with 10 years of experience working crimes against children, then called 911. Gibbs soon arrived, but the child accused him of abuse. He left then returned a few minutes later with the child’s mother. When she heard of the abuse, she removed her remaining children from his vehicle.

A Child Abuse Forensic Interviewer later spoke with both victims who stated that Gibbs, an adult they had trusted, sexually abused them in his vehicle during an outing to a park. Following the visit to the park, Gibbs took the children to a nearby store where one ran away and sought help.

“A victim of Andrew Gibbs bravely reported his predatory acts and, along with her sister, testified against him in federal court,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “It is extremely difficult for children to reveal the details of their sexual abuse to anyone, let alone a courtroom of strangers. I commend both the victims for their courage.  When children report abuse, adults should listen and report to authorities.”

Gibbs remains in the custody and will be sentenced on Feb. 18, 2022.

The FBI and Tulsa Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Valeria Luster and Chantelle D. Dial are prosecuting the case.
