TULSA, OK -Un hombre de Stilwell que abusó sexualmente de una menor durante un viaje por carretera en 2017 fue condenado el viernes en un tribunal federal, anunció el fiscal federal Clint Johnson.
El juez jefe de distrito de los Estados Unidos, John F. Heil III, sentenció a David Anthony RomanNose, de 45 años, a cadena perpetua en una prisión federal por abuso sexual agravado por la fuerza y amenaza en Indian Country y 180 meses de prisión por abuso sexual de un menor en Indian Country.
“David RomanNose explotó la confianza y la amistad de una niña de 12 años”, dijo Johnson. “El testimonio de la víctima sobre los abusos que sufrió ayudó a evitar que el acusado siguiera aprovechándose de otros niños”.
“Los reprobables delitos cometidos por RomanNose contra un menor revelan su carácter repulsivo y vil”, dijo el agente especial del FBI en Oklahoma City, Edward J. El 4 de julio de 2017, RomanNose, acompañó a un grupo que viajaba por el noreste de Oklahoma después de asistir a un festival en Seiling. Durante el viaje, RomanNose abusó sexualmente de la víctima en el asiento trasero del vehículo. La violación se produjo en territorio Indio, en la autopista Will Rogers Turnpike/autopista interestatal I-44, cerca de Vinita. RomanNose también abusó de la menor, una ciudadana de la Nación India Oneida, después de que el grupo llegara a su casa en Nueva York.
Durante el juicio, los miembros de la familia testificaron que tras el viaje por carretera, el comportamiento de la víctima cambió drásticamente. Afirmaron que se volvió más retraída y empezó a comportarse mal. Los cambios inexplicables en el comportamiento de los niños pueden ser un indicio de abuso sexual infantil. La víctima acabó revelando los abusos a un consejero y a un familiar.
RomanNose permanece bajo la custodia del Servicio de Alguaciles de los Estados Unidos hasta su traslado a un centro de la oficina federal de prisiones.
El FBI, el departamento de policía de Oneida Indian Nation, la oficina del sheriff del condado de Craig y la oficina del fiscal del distrito del condado de Craig llevaron a cabo la investigación. Las fiscales adjuntas Gina S. Gilmore y Stacey P. Todd son las encargadas de llevar el caso.
Oklahoma man sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a minor
TULSA, OK –A Stilwell man who sexually abused a minor during a 2017 road trip was sentenced Friday in federal court, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
Chief U.S. District Judge John F. Heil III sentenced David Anthony RomanNose, 45, to life in federal prison for aggravated sexual abuse by force and threat in Indian Country and 180 months in prison for sexual abuse of a minor in Indian Country.
“David RomanNose exploited the trust and friendship of a 12-year-old child,” Johnson said. “The victim’s testimony about the abuse she endured helped prevent the defendant from continuing to prey on other children.”
“The reprehensible crimes committed by Mr. RomanNose against a minor reveal his repulsive and vile character,” said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray. “The spectacular bravery displayed by the victim– in combination with the partnerships between federal, tribal, and state law enforcement– brought Mr. RomanNose to justice. The FBI and our police partners will continue to fight against predators who prey on our Oklahoma community.”
On July 4, 2017, RomanNose, accompanied a group who were traveling through northeastern Oklahoma after attending a festival in Seiling. While traveling, RomanNose sexually abused the victim in the backseat of the vehicle. The violation occurred in Indian Country on the Will Rogers Turnpike/Interstate Highway I-44 near Vinita. RomanNose also abused the minor, an Oneida Indian Nation citizen, after the group arrived home in New York.
During the trial, family members testified that following the road trip, the victim’s behavior changed dramatically. They stated that she became more withdrawn and started acting out. Unexplained changes in children’s behavior can be indicative of child sexual abuse. The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to a counselor and family member.
RomanNose remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
The FBI, Oneida Indian Nation Police Department, Craig County Sheriff’s Office, and the Craig County District Attorney’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gina S. Gilmore and Stacey P. Todd are prosecuting the case.
