Nueva exposición en el Estudio Liggett / New exhibition opens at Liggett Studio

TULSA, OK — Esta semana llegan a Liggett Studio un par de nuevas y provocativas exposiciones de arte. “Fleshy Bits & Kinky Clay”, obras de Clayton Keyes y Fredrick Vernon, y “Chaotic Moments of Romance”, nueva escultura de Adrien Lee, se inaugurarán el 10 de junio desde las 5:00 pm hasta las 8:00 pm.

Clayton Keyes, de Tulsa (Oklahoma), es profesor asistente de arte en cerámica y escultura en la Northeastern State University de Tahlequah (Oklahoma).

“El trabajo académico de Clayton se centra en la figura para crear una narrativa emocional”, dice la declaración del artista de Keyes. “Además, crea un cuerpo de cerámica homo-erótica y objetos de arte conocidos como Kinky Clay Goods. Clayton ofrece talleres y demostraciones de sus diversos procesos a nivel nacional. Para la exposición Fleshy Bits and Kinky Clay, Clayton ha incluido piezas de ambos cuerpos de trabajo. Como esta exposición coincide con el mes del orgullo, el tema general de su obra celebra y representa su propio estilo de vida queer y el de muchos de sus amigos”. 

La declaración del artista Adrien Lee refleja la naturaleza personal de las obras expuestas:

“Este conjunto de obras se basa en coyunturas de la vida que recuerdo como caóticas y confusas.

Volviendo constantemente a estos recuerdos, decido filtrarlos a través de lo físico. De la arcilla surgen retratos y figuras que expresan físicamente la emoción y la energía de estos momentos. En la creación de estas obras, utilicé un estilo brutalista de arcilla sin protección con reflejos de esmalte de cono seis. Cada pieza se construye sólida y luego se ahueca antes de la cocción. Al filtrar estos momentos a través de la arcilla con sólo recuerdos fragmentados, llegué a la conclusión de que estos puntos en el tiempo no eran sólo confusos y caóticos, sino también reconfortantes y románticos”.

Ambas exposiciones continúan hasta el viernes 1 de julio. Todas las obras estarán disponibles en línea para su compra, así como en la galería.

El horario de la galería después de la inauguración es el jueves de 5 a 8 de la tarde y el sábado de 1 a 5 de la tarde.

New exhibition opens at Liggett Studio

TULSA, OK — A pair of provocative new art exhibitions is coming to Liggett Studio this week. “Fleshy Bits & Kinky Clay,” works by Clayton Keyes and Fredrick Vernon, and “Chaotic Moments of Romance,” new sculpture by Adrien Lee, will open June 10^th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Clayton Keyes of Tulsa, Oklahoma is the Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics and Sculpture at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.

“Clayton’s academic work focuses on the figure for creating emotional narrative,” Keyes’ artist statement reads. “In addition, he creates a body of homo-erotic pottery and art objects known as Kinky Clay Goods. Clayton provides workshops and demonstrations of his various processes nationally. For the exhibition, Fleshy Bits and Kinky Clay, Clayton has included pieces from both bodies of work. As this exhibition coincides with Pride month, the overarching theme of his work celebrates and depicts his own queer lifestyle and that of so many of his friends.” 

Adrien Lee’s Artist Statement reflects the personal nature of the works on display:

“This body of work is based on junctures in life I remember as chaotic and confusing. 

Constantly coming back to these memories, I decide to filter them through the physical. Emerging from clay are portraits and figures to physically express the emotion and energy of these moments in time. In creating these works, I used a brutalist style of unprotected clay with highlights of cone six glaze. Each piece is built solid and then hollowed out before firing. While filtering these moments through clay with only fragmented memories, I came to the realization these points in time were not just confusing and chaotic but also comforting and romantic.”

Both exhibits continue through Friday, July 1. All work will be available online for purchase as well as in-gallery.
