WAGONER COUNTY, Oklahoma – Investigators are working to identify a woman’s body found just south of Coweta on Friday afternoon.
Wagoner County Sheriff’s Deputies confirmed it found the body on one of the sand banks in the Arkansas River.
Wagoner County Sheriff’s Deputies and Emergency management crews were the first on the scene.
The call came in at 12:40 p.m., and less than an hour later the Oklahoma Highway Patrol received the call to help.
“They took that airboat as far as they could and then they actually got out on foot and made the recovery on foot,” Foster said.
Trooper Eric Foster said they found the woman’s body in shallow water, on one of the sand banks.
Early estimates suggested the woman had been there for a while.
Foster said with the hot weather and exposure to moving water, it is hard to tell.
The woman had no ID on her and no way of confirming who she was.
So far investigators haven’t found any clear cause of death. However, Foster said once the medical examiner’s report is done, the investigation will continue.
“Right now, we have to wait for that medical examiner’s report before we can go further with that,” Foster said.
After the medical examiner is finished with the report, the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office and Highway Patrol will continue their joint investigation.

CONDADO DE WAGONER, Oklahoma – Los investigadores están trabajando para identificar el cuerpo de una mujer encontrado al sur de Coweta el viernes por la tarde.
Los diputados del alguacil del condado de Waggoner confirmaron que encontraron el cuerpo en uno de los bancos de arena en el río Arkansas.
Los agentes del alguacil del condado de Waggoner y los equipos de manejo de emergencias fueron los primeros en llegar al lugar.
La llamada llegó a las 12:40 p. m., y menos de una hora después, la Patrulla de Caminos de Oklahoma recibió la llamada para ayudar.
“Tomaron ese hidrodeslizador lo más lejos que pudieron y luego salieron a pie e hicieron la recuperación a pie”, dijo Foster.
El policía Eric Foster dijo que encontraron el cuerpo de la mujer en aguas poco profundas, en uno de los bancos de arena.
Las primeras estimaciones sugirieron que la mujer había estado allí por un tiempo.
Foster dijo que con el clima cálido y la exposición al agua en movimiento, es difícil saberlo.
La mujer no tenía identificación ni forma de confirmar quién era.
Hasta el momento, los investigadores no han encontrado ninguna causa clara de muerte. Sin embargo, Foster dijo que una vez que se haga el informe del médico forense, la investigación continuará.
“En este momento, tenemos que esperar el informe de ese médico forense antes de que podamos continuar con eso”, dijo Foster.
Después de que el médico forense haya terminado con el informe, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Waggoner y la Patrulla de Caminos continuarán su investigación conjunta.
