AMERICA TIPS A HISTORIC 7-0 WIN OVER CRUZ AZUL

America thrashed Cruz Azul 7-0 on Saturday in the biggest win that the defeated team recorded in its history within the framework of the tenth day of the Apertura del Mexican soccer tournament, which, according to local media, caused the dismissal of Uruguayan Diego Aguirre as technical director of Cruz Azul.

With their fourth consecutive victory, the “Eagles” of America reached 16 points to be in fourth place overall. Meanwhile, Cruz Azul, which suffered its fourth consecutive loss, stayed in penultimate place with eight points.

“I am not aware of any of that (cessation). It is a moment of great sporting shame, of redoubling efforts and working harder than ever. Our way of facing the moment is to work harder than ever, we are all part of the problem”, said Aguirre’s technical assistant at Cruz Azul, the Uruguayan Juan Verzeri.

In the match played at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City, América took the lead after 15 minutes when the Paraguayan Richard Sánchez put the ball in the left corner with a powerful shot from outside the box.

The “Eagles” scored the second goal at 22 minutes when the Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez finished off a pass from Henry Martín without a mark inside the small area, who overtook the Argentine Ramiro Funes Mori in the left sector for speed.

Cruz Azul’s “Celestial Machine” was close to discounting at 30 minutes, but the shots of the Paraguayans Juan Escobar and Ángel Romero crashed into the crossbar.

America put Cruz Azul’s goal in danger again at 43 minutes with a shot from Alejandro Zendejas that crashed into the left post.

At the end of the first half, Cruz Azul was left with one less man with the expulsion of Rafael Baca, who saw the red card after committing a strong foul from behind on Henry Martín.

The infraction originated the third goal of America when the Chilean Diego Valdés beat goalkeeper Sebastián Jurado by taking the penalty kick.

Henry Martín scored the fourth goal in the 53rd minute sweeping in the small area after a center sent by Emilio Lara from the right wing.

The post again prevented America’s goal in the 65th minute when the Spaniard Álvaro Fidalgo crashed his shot into the crossbar. But seven minutes later the Spanish midfielder scored the fifth goal with a placed shot that sent the ball into the left corner.

The sixth goal fell at 84 minutes with a Header by Uruguayan Federico Viñas after center sent by Miguel Layún from the right sector.

America closed the account at 89 minutes with a goal from Salvador Reyes, who defined with a powerful shot inside the area.

“It was a nice night for the fans, for us and for the fans, to keep insisting on what we want. In the locker room I told the players to enjoy something historic, but this continues”, said the technical director of America, the Argentine Fernando Ortiz.

In the other games on Saturday, Querétaro achieved its first victory of the tournament after defeating Tijuana 2-0 with goals from Pablo Barrera and Ángel Sepúlveda.

Atlas and Puebla tied 1-1 with goals Colombian Julián Quiñones and Martín Barragán, respectively. Bravos de Ciudad Juárez and Mazatlán also tied 1-1 with goals from Uruguayan Gabriel Fernández and Alfonso Sánchez.
