Los planes establecidos para el deceso de la monarca contemplaban la posibilidad de que falleciera en Escocia, dado este caso se activó la Operación Unicornio que contempla una ceremonia en San Giles antes de ser trasladada a Londres

El ataúd de la reina Isabel II será llevado a la catedral escocesa de St Giles, en Edimburgo, en tres días y allí yacerá durante 24 horas, en las que los ciudadanos podrán acudir a presentar sus respetos.

El cuerpo sin vida de la soberana, que falleció este jueves a los 96 años en el castillo de Balmoral (Escocia), será primero trasladado a la residencia de Holyrood, sede del Parlamento escocés, y de allí será llevada previsiblemente el domingo a la catedral, situada en la Royal Mile de Edimburgo, a medio camino entre ambos edificios.

Tras anunciarse la noticia, el reverendo Calum MacLeod, ministro de ese templo, recordó que la reina era una “servidora fuerte y fiel”.

“Con toda la nación, en la Catedral de St Giles lloramos la muerte de su majestad la Reina, servidora fuerte y fiel para el Reino Unido y la Commonwealth durante muchos años”, indicó el religioso en la página web del templo.

La catedral oficiará un servicio por la soberana y se espera que sus hijos acudan en los próximos días a velar el cuerpo de su madre, en la conocida como la Vigilia de los príncipes.

OPERACIÓN UNICORNIO

No es ningún secreto que el plan del Reino Unido para la eventual muerte de la reina Isabel II recibió el nombre en clave de Puente de Londres.

Pero había disposiciones especiales si la monarca moría cuando estaba en Escocia, llamada Operación Unicornio.

El unicornio es el animal nacional de Escocia y forma parte del escudo de armas real, junto con el león de Inglaterra.

Los aspectos de la Operación Puente de Londres ya estaban activados, como los presentadores de la BBC vestidos de negro y los canales cambiando a noticias continuas.

El periódico Herald informó que el término Operación Unicornio se utilizó por primera vez en los periódicos en línea del parlamento de Edimburgo en 2017, previendo que llegaría un gran número de personas a Escocia si era allí donde moría el monarca.

“Se entiende que si la Reina muere en Escocia… el Parlamento, el vecino Palacio de Holyroodhouse y la Catedral de St Giles serán los principales puntos focales”, escribió el periódico el miércoles.

El palacio es la residencia oficial del monarca en Edimburgo y la catedral es una de las iglesias medievales más importantes de la capital escocesa.

Los asuntos parlamentarios se suspenderán de inmediato y los políticos prepararán una moción de condolencia y se prepararán para un funeral de estado.

Los miembros del público firmarán un libro de condolencias en el parlamento en Holyrood.

Una fuente en el parlamento le dijo a The Herald que la muerte de la reina en Escocia podría provocar que cientos de miles de personas lleguen allí.

“Si la Reina fallece en Escocia, su cuerpo descansará en Holyroodhouse, luego de lo cual su ataúd será llevado a la catedral en la Royal Mile (en Edimburgo)”, escribió el periódico.

Luego, su cuerpo se colocará en el Royal Train en la estación Waverley en Edimburgo para un viaje por la línea principal de la costa este a Londres.

OPERATION UNICORN

“It is understood that if the Queen dies in Scotland… Parliament, the neighboring Palace of Holyroodhouse and St Giles Cathedral will be the main focal points,” the newspaper wrote on Wednesday.

The palace is the official residence of the monarch in Edinburgh and the cathedral is one of the most important medieval churches in the Scottish capital.

Parliamentary business will be immediately suspended and politicians will prepare a motion of condolence and prepare for a state funeral.

Members of the public will sign a book of condolences in Parliament at Holyrood.

A source in parliament told Herald that the death of the queen in Scotland could cause hundreds of thousands of people to arrive there.

“If the Queen dies in Scotland, her body will rest at Holyroodhouse, after which her coffin will be taken to the cathedral on the Royal Mile (in Edinburgh),” the newspaper wrote.
