Son muchos los artistas del corazón que sueñan con dejar huella en el mundo y hacer brillar sus nombres, pero como muchos sabrán, vivir del arte no es cosa fácil, y menos para los latinos de la ciudad, que se las rebuscan para salir adelante. Sin embargo, el venezolano Henry Toro, prueba que la pasión es lo que vale y que no hay límites ni fronteras para el buen arte.

Henry nació en Valencia, Venezuela y desde 1995 vive en Tulsa, lugar del que hizo su hogar. El arte lo acompañó siempre, amaba pintar cuando niño pero las circunstancias de la vida y las responsabilidades de la paternidad hicieron que trabajase detrás de un escritorio durante más de una década. “En el 2008 me despidieron del banco y empecé a dedicarme a eso que tanto me gustaba a tiempo completo. Puse una obra en etsy y de repente me empezaron a llegar órdenes y me di cuenta de que no me alcanzaba el tiempo”, cuenta Toro sobre su éxito.

Hoy, Henry es artista full time y comercializa su arte en tiendas online abiertas al mundo entero. Se especializa en wall art y trabajos con madera, pero también realiza dibujos y hasta esculturas. “Me inspiro en los colores que me caracterizan como latino, vibrantes, coloridos y cálidos”, aseguró, resaltando que su color favorito es el turquesa y todos los tonos de azules.

Las obras de Toro oscilan entre los $125 y los $15000 dependiendo del tamaño y la complejidad. “Me llena de satisfacción ver que la gente se inspira y es feliz con mis obras”, dijo el artista sobre su mensaje.

Henry Toro es artista, es padre, es atleta y todo lo hace bajo el mismo lema, “ver el lado positivo de las cosas”. “Hay que recordar que cada experiencia vale, a mi me gusta andar por la vida con pensamientos positivos, me gusta atravesar la vida con sutileza, sin dañar a los demás, ayudando cada vez que puedo”, reconoció.

Son muchos los artistas latinos de Tulsa esperando dar el batacazo, y Henry reconoce la labor de sus pares, pero sabe que aún hay un largo camino por andar, pues a todos les falta visibilidad en la comunidad.  “Necesitamos una avenida para dar a conocer los talentos que tenemos en la ciudad, requerimos más empuje, quizás del condado, para hacer ver quiénes son los artistas latinos con los que contamos”, afirmó.

“Sigan, nunca pierdan la esperanza porque haciendo lo que aman hacer llegaran donde deben, no paren de crear”.

Henry Toro a Latin full time artist

Tulsa, OK- There are many amateur artists or artists at heart that dream about leaving an imprint in time, but making a life out of art was never easy, and this can be even more difficult for the Hispanics in town already struggling to get along. Still, Henry Toro’s story proves that passion is the only way to survival, and that art has no borders or nationality.

Henry was born in Valencia, Venezuela and has been living in Tulsa since 1995, a place he is very proud to call home. Art has always been by his side, especially as a kid when he painted most of the day, but the responsibilities of adulthood and family forced him to stay behind a desk for more than a decade.

“In 2008 after the mortgage crisis I got laid off at the bank where I worked, and it was then I decided to give my art a try. I published one of my works on Etsy, and suddenly people started ordering new pieces and I realized I had a full time job,” said Toro about his beginnings.

Today the artist sells his work in online stores open to the world with no borders or boundaries. He specializes in wall art and all kinds of wood art, but has also explored the world of drawing and design, and even sculpture.

“I get my inspiration from colors, colors that are related to my Latino roots, warm and colorful,” he said, noting that his favorite is turquoise and all the blue patterns.

Toro’s works start at around $125 and even reach the $15,000 mark, depending on the size of the masterpiece and its complexity.

“I am fully satisfied when I see people getting inspiration from my work, when I feel I make them happy,” he added.

Henry Toro is a fulltime artist, a father and an athlete, and in everything he does, he follows the same motto: “looking at the bright side of life.”

“We must remember that all experiences count,” he observed. “I like to walk life with positive thoughts, going through it subtly, without harming others, helping each time I can.”

Tulsa has tons of artists waiting for success and Henry is aware of the talents of his peers, but knows the road is long and full visibility in the community is yet to be achieved.

“We need a huge venue to show the talents we have in this town,” he said. “We need a push, maybe from the City, to make visible all the Latin artists that live and breathe here.”

To all those artists trying to open doors Toro says: “Keep on working, never stop creating, because hope can never be lost when you do what you love.”
