El 8 de noviembre, los habitantes de Oklahoma elegirán quién dirigirá el estado durante los próximos cuatro años y, en opinión de este periódico, la elección está clara. Joy Hofmeister es, por abrumadora mayoría, la mejor persona para convertirse en el próximo gobernador de Oklahoma, y lo cierto es que Kevin Stitt no merece otro mandato.

Tras hacerse con un poder sin precedentes sobre numerosas agencias estatales -poder que le cedió ciegamente una legislatura republicana faltona-, Stitt ha fracasado repetidamente a la hora de utilizar su ampliada autoridad por el bien de Oklahoma, sino más bien para enriquecerse a sí mismo y a sus compinches mientras avanza una agenda extremista que ya está costando dinero y puestos de trabajo al estado.

Hofmeister es una ex republicana y la definición misma de una persona moderada, a pesar de los falsos anuncios de televisión de la campaña de Stitt que intentan desesperadamente presentarla como liberal.

Hofmeister está firmemente a favor de la educación, concretamente de la educación pública, que es sin duda el mayor problema al que se enfrenta Oklahoma hoy en día. Mientras que las políticas de Stitt buscan castigar a cualquier distrito escolar cuya dirección perciba que no está en sintonía con su rígida ideología ultraconservadora, Hofmeister tiene una visión clara para mejorar todas las escuelas del estado, incluidas las de las zonas rurales que Stitt cataloga como irrelevantes.

Cualquiera que conozca mínimamente la historia de Oklahoma sabe el valioso, y muchos dirían que indispensable, papel que desempeñan los gobiernos tribales en colaboración con los funcionarios electos del estado. Mientras que Hofmeister reconoce y acepta esto, Stitt ha optado, en cada oportunidad, por entrar en guerra con las tribus en detrimento de todos los residentes de Oklahoma y con un enorme costo para los contribuyentes.

Cuando se trata de otras poblaciones minoritarias del estado, los hispanos en particular, Stitt ha tratado descaradamente de complacer a esa comunidad con falsas promesas y operaciones fotográficas, por un lado, mientras que, por el otro, vilipendia a los inmigrantes siempre que le conviene políticamente. Por su parte, y como ha demostrado a lo largo de su mandato como superintendente estatal de instrucción pública, Hofmeister reconoce el valor de la diversidad y el beneficio económico que los inmigrantes aportan al estado.

Desde los numerosos escándalos de corrupción de su administración hasta sus políticas extremistas contra la mujer y contra el colectivo LGBTQ, Stitt ha demostrado que no está en contacto con los valores de la mayoría de los habitantes de Oklahoma. OPINION FOR JOY HOFMEISTER

On November 8^th, Oklahomans will choose who will lead the state for the next four years, and in the opinion of this newspaper, the choice is clear. Joy Hofmeister is overwhelmingly the best person to become Oklahoma’s next governor, and the truth is that Kevin Stitt does not deserve another term in office.

After grabbing unprecedented power over numerous state agencies – power ceded to him blindly by a lapdog Republican legislature – Stitt has repeatedly failed to use his expanded authority for the good of Oklahoma, but rather to enrich himself and his cronies while advancing an extremist agenda that is already costing the state money and jobs.

Hofmeister is a former Republican and the very definition of a moderate, disingenuous television ads by the Stitt campaign desperately trying to paint her as a liberal notwithstanding.

Hofmeister is solidly pro-education, specifically public education, which is arguably the single greatest issue facing Oklahoma today. While Stitt’s policies seek to punish any school district whose leadership he perceives as being out of step with his rigid ultraconservative ideology, Hofmeister has a clear vision for improving all of the state’s schools, including those in rural areas Stitt dismisses as irrelevant.

Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Oklahoma history knows the valuable, many would say indispensable role that tribal governments have in partnership with the state’s elected officials. While Hofmeister recognizes and embraces this, Stitt has, at every opportunity, chosen to go to war with the tribes to the detriment of all Oklahoma residents and at huge cost to taxpayers.

When it comes to the state’s other minority populations, Hispanics in particular, Stitt has blatantly tried to pander to that community with false promises and photo ops on the one hand while on the other vilifying immigrants whenever it suits him politically. For her part, and as has been demonstrated throughout her tenure as State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Hofmeister recognizes the value of diversity and the economic benefit that immigrants bring to the state.

From his administration’s numerous corruption scandals to his extremist anti woman and anti LGBTQ policies, Stitt has shown he is out of touch with the values of most Oklahomans. La Semana urges its readers to make Joy Hofmeister Oklahoma’s 29^th – and second female – governor. (La Semana)
