Exposición de Steve Liggett se inaugura el 2 de diciembre / Steve Liggett exhibit opens December 2^nd

TULSA, OK — Este viernes, 2 de diciembre, se inaugura una nueva exposición del arte de Steve Liggett en The Gallery at Liggett Studio. “PENDULA: Obras recientes en arcilla y papel de Steve Liggett”, tendrá una duración limitada hasta el 17 de diciembre.

Esta será la primera exposición individual de la obra de Steve Liggett en muchos años y muestra una gama de su trabajo en arcilla, papel hecho a mano y medios mixtos en los últimos años.  También representa el 50 aniversario del trabajo de Steve en la comunidad de Tulsa desde que se mudó aquí desde Kansas City para ir inicialmente a la escuela en ORU, donde estudió administración de empresas antes de cambiar para especializarse en Arte y finalmente mudarse a TU para graduarse con una Maestría en Cerámica en 1979. Aunque es más conocido por su trabajo con Living Arts of Tulsa, ha trabajado constantemente en diversas formas de arte, como la cerámica, el papel, la fotografía, performance, el vídeo y medios mixtos. Y esto muestra sus diversas influencias en estos diferentes medios.

Aunque el trabajo de Liggett en papel hecho a mano se remonta a la época en que John Everitt le dio una pequeña beca para estudiar con los maestros papeleros Kathryn y Howard Clark en el estudio de papel hecho a mano Twinrocker en agosto de 1982, cuando aprendió por primera vez el proceso de hacer obras de arte en pasta de papel, esta es la primera vez que Liggett ha creado un cuerpo de trabajo que representa lo que el papel hecho a mano es capaz de manifestar.  Y el plan es duplicar el tamaño del Liggett Studio Paper Lab para dar cabida a más estudiantes que quieran aprender y crear obras de arte con pulpa de papel.  “Mi esperanza es que atraigamos a artistas de todo el mundo que quieran venir a Tulsa y crear una obra en papel”.  Nuestro pequeño grupo de dedicados fabricantes de papel ha donado suficiente dinero (a través de la asociación comunitaria con AHHA) para comprar una nueva batidora Reina Hollander, que será la última pieza del equipo para completar nuestro estudio Paper Lab.

Otra característica de esta exposición es el trabajo de colaboración que Steve ha realizado con su hija, Cara, que llevó sus piezas de papel hechas a mano a París para trabajar en ellas mientras se sentaba en lugares como el Jardín de Monet en Giverney y bajo la Torre Eiffel.

La exposición está dividida en secciones que siguen el tema de la PÉNDULA (o Plumbob) que ha sido un tema recurrente en gran parte de la obra de Liggett desde la muerte de su padre (Bob Liggett) cuando hizo el primer plumbob para su urna funeraria.

Steve Liggett exhibit opens December 2^nd

TULSA, OK — A new exhibit of the art of Steve Liggett is opening this Friday, December 2^nd, at The Gallery at Liggett Studio. “PENDULA: Recent works in Clay and Paper by Steve Liggett,” will have a limited run through December 17^th.

This will be the first solo exhibit of Steve Liggett’s work in many years and shows a range of his work in clay, handmade paper and mixed media over the past few years.  It also represents the 50thanniversary of Steve’s work in the Tulsa community from moving here from Kansas City to initially go to school at ORU where he studied Business Administration before switching to become an Art major and eventually moving to TU to graduate with a MA in Ceramics in 1979.  Although he is best known for his work with Living Arts of Tulsa, he has consistently worked in various forms of artwork, including ceramics, paper, photography, performance, video and mixed media.  And this shows his various influences from these different media.

Although Liggett’s work in handmade paper goes back to the time that John Everitt gave him a small grant to study with the Master Papermakers, Kathryn and Howard Clark at Twinrocker Handmade Paper Studio in August, 1982 when he first learned the process of making artwork in paper pulp, this is the first time that Liggett has created a body of work that represents what handmade paper is capable of manifesting.  And the plan is to double the size of the Liggett Studio Paper Lab to accommodate more students who would like to learn and create artworks using paper pulp.  “My hope is that we will attract artists from all over the world who would like to come to Tulsa and create a body of work in paper”.  Our small group of dedicated papermakers have donated enough money (though the Community Partnership with AHHA) to purchase a new Reina Hollander Beater which will be the final piece of equipment to complete our studio Paper Lab.

Another feature of this exhibit is the collaborative work that Steve has done with his daughter, Cara who took his handmade paper pieces to Paris to work on while sitting in such places as Monet’s Garden at Giverney and under the Eiffel Tower.

The exhibition is broken into sections that go along with the theme of PENDULA (or Plumbob) which has been a recurring theme of much of Liggett’s work since his father’s (Bob Liggett) death when he made the first plumbob for his burial urn.
