Modric se despide a lo grande / Croatia third place

QATAR 2022 | CROACIA 2 – MARRUECOS 1 – En el que pudo ser su último partido mundialista, el mediocentro del Real Madrid celebró el tercer puesto de Croacia. Marruecos, con la miel en los labios.

El tiempo no se puede congelar, por desgracia. A Luka Modric tampoco. El mediocentro del Real Madrid disputó, ante Marruecos este sábado, el que pudo ser su último partido mundialista. Croacia ganó por 2-1 a los Leones del Atlas, que se quedó con la miel en los labios, y puso la guinda a cuatro años históricos en los que ha rozado ser campeón del mundo. Lideradas por un jugador único, irrepetible, imposible de clonar, Modric se despide de Qatar con un más que notable tercer puesto.

El encuentro que nadie quería jugar, la “falsa final” como definió Regragui en la previa, la consolación de los semifinalistas. El partido no presentaba, a priori, una emoción trepidante, pero el broche de oro a la mejor selección africana de la historia de los Mundiales y el último partido en una Copa del Mundo de Luka Modric eran, sin lugar a dudas, alicientes suficientes como para disfrutarlo.

La primera parte no defraudó. El inicio fue atronador. Croacia, liderada por un excelente Modric en el centro del campo, haciendo las labores de Brozovic en defensa, se adelantó en una acción de pizarra absoluta. Cuando todo el mundo pensaba que Majer iba a centrar en una jugada a balón parado, el del Rennes puso un preciso centro picado a Perisic que, de cabeza, asistió a Gvardiol. El central del Leipzig, destrozado por Messi en semifinales, necesitaba un tanto así para reivindicarse.

Sin tiempo para parpadear, la combativa Marruecos, que ya daba síntomas de letargo en el campo, le quitó la sonrisa a su rival de un plumazo. También a balón parado, Achraf Dari aprovechó una indecisión de Livakovic en el área pequeña para hacer las tablas en el marcador. El partido no parecía un tercer y cuarto puesto, sí una batalla con mucho en juego, por lo que el espectador lo agradeció enormemente.

A partir del empate de Marruecos, la voz cantante la llevó Modric. El mediocentro del Real Madrid sabía que estaba ante su último baile. No contento con ello, fruto de su impagable competitividad, cada ataque croata pasó por sus botas, a tal punto de que estuvo a punto de marcar el 2-1 en un recorte marca de la casa en la frontal que precedió a un buen disparo con la pierna izquierda. Bono, atento, evitó su premio.

Cuando ya el primer tiempo parecía abocado al empate, apareció Orsic, un futbolista de una enorme calidad del que nadie, solo Dalic, entiende que haya jugado tan poco en el Mundial. El extremo del Dinamo de Zagreb, con un toque sutil, breve, pero excelso, sorprendió a Bono y puso otra vez por delante a Croacia en el marcador.

Tras el descanso, Croacia y Marruecos redujeron el ritmo, aunque los balcánicos intentaron cortar por la vía rápida cualquier esperanza de los norafricanos. Orsic, muy activo durante todo el partido, se convirtió en una pesadilla para Achraf y toda la defensa marroquí. Regragui dio entrada a jugadores con poco protagonismo en el Mundial, en un gran gesto para coronar a una generación que ya ha hecho historia en Qatar.

El partido se sumergió en un caudal de errores en el que Croacia se sentía mucho más cómoda que Marruecos. De ese equipo valiente, aguerrido, eufórico, que había mirado de tú a tú a las grandes selecciones no hubo apenas rastro en el Al Khalifa Stadium. Sin embargo, un mano a mano de En-Nesiry que repelió Livakovic encogió el corazón como de los aficionados croatas, que pidieron penalti de Amrabat sobre Petkovic, muy claro en la repetición, que ni vio, o no quiso ver, el VAR. Croacia amarró el tercer puesto, no sin antes ver como un remate de En-Nesiry en el descuento rozó el poste, y se despidió de un Mundial que, además posiblemente ser el último de Modric, fue la enésima gesta de un país que no supera los 4 millones de habitantes.

Modric says goodbye in style

Time cannot be frozen, unfortunately. A Luka modric neither.
