OSCURA NOCHE EN PARÍS / A DARK NIGHT IN PARIS

Guillermo Rojas, editor del semanario bilingüe La Semana con sede en Tulsa, Oklahoma, EEUU, recientemente viajó a Suiza como es habitual en él, con su esposa, su pequeño hijo, la mayor de sus hermanas, y dos de sus hijas con motivo de festejar el cumpleaños de la hija que reside en Zurich. Luego de la celebración, dispusieron de un tiempo para recorrer algunos sitios de Europa, como Italia, por ejemplo, de la que se llevaron maravillosos recuerdos de los lugares que visitaron y de las personas con las que compartieron. 

Felices con esta experiencia decidieron seguir por Francia dirigiéndose a París, la ciudad de las luces y como dicen la más romántica del mundo para conocer y disfrutar de sus hermosos y simbólicos sitios turísticos como la torre Eiffel, el museo del Louvre, el Arco del Triunfo, la Opera Garnier, la catedral de Notre Dame.  Pero el destino les deparaba una imprevista e ingrata sorpresa. 

Arribaron en horas de la madrugada del día 5 de abril, a pesar del cansancio por las horas de viaje se dirigieron hacia el departamento que habían rentado. Se trasladaban en un auto conducido por una de sus hijas, el que había sido alquilado por su esposo. Un Mercedes Benz 2023 con placa de Suiza y capacidad para nueve personas, dado que eran siete los que iban en él. Felices y entusiasmados por tanta belleza e historia que en los días siguientes conocerían.   

Mientras se dirigían al apartamento, cercano a un importante estadio de fútbol, algunos detalles comenzaron a llamarles la atención. Calles poco iluminadas y algunos transeúntes con caras poco amistosas. Pero, estaban al fin en la ciudad luz, pensaban que todo iba a ser como lo imaginaron y tantas veces lo hablaron con otras personas que estuvieron allí. 

Sin embargo, no fue así. Comenzaron a notar que varios individuos montados en su motos, entre ellos una mujer, se acercaban, dando vueltas a su alrededor, haciendo peligrosos saltos cross, hasta encerrarlos y no dejarlos avanzar. Al punto de detenerlos. Guillermo y su esposa Marina se vieron forzados a descender del vehículo, quedando en él, su pequeño hijo Mateo, su hermana Edith que tiene dificultades para caminar, su nieta de 17 años y sus dos hijas. Leticia y Natalia quien conducía.

La situación se complicó aún más cuando uno de los delincuentes intenta abrir la puerta del auto. Frente a esa actitud, una de las hijas puso toda su fuerza y logró cerrarla al mismo tiempo que Natalia al volante aceleró alejándose del lugar.

Quien hubiera pensado que la familia Rojas Alcócer terminara siendo acosada para un eventual secuestro o vaya a saber qué vandalismo habían pensado estos malvivientes para ellos. 

Esto ocurrió a unos veinticinco minutos en tiempo – distancia que los separaba del centro neurálgico parisino. 

Como bienvenida, la familia Rojas Alcócer terminaron durmiendo sentados en la estación de policía, mientras esperaban ser interrogados para dar su declaración sobre el hecho e identificar a los delincuentes. Y aquí hubo un hecho llamativo.

El pequeño Mateo al ser interrogado fue el testigo que aportó los detalles más precisos que señalaban a los autores del delito y los comprometían. Por este motivo, el oficial de policía que le tomó declaración, se quitó una de las insignias que llevaba prendida en su uniforme y se la entregó en reconocimiento, a continuación otro policía hizo lo mismo y un tercero, le regaló un par de esposas como reconocimiento por su contribución. 

Guillermo Rojas Alcócer y su familia, preocupados por lo ocurrido en aquella “oscura noche en París”, todavía permanecen hasta altas horas de la madrugada sin dormir.  

A DARK NIGHT IN PARIS

Guillermo Rojas, editor of the bilingual weekly La Semana based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, recently traveled to Switzerland accompanied by his wife, his young son, the eldest of his sisters, and two of his daughters on the occasion of celebrating the birthday of a daughter who resides in that Zurich. After the celebration, they had some time to visit some places in Europe, such as Italy, for example, from which they took wonderful moments and memories of the places they visited and the people with whom they shared.

Happy with this experience, they decided to continue through France, heading to Paris, the City of Lights and as they say the most romantic city in the world, to know and enjoy its beautiful and symbolic tourist sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Arc de Triomphe, the Opera Garnier, and Notre Dame Cathedral. But fate brought them an unforeseen and ungrateful surprise.

As soon as they arrived in the early hours of April 5, despite the fatigue of the hours of travel, they headed towards the apartment they had rented. They were traveling in a car driven by one of her daughters, which had been rented by her husband. A Mercedes Benz 2023 black with capacity for nine people, since there were seven who were in it. The party was happy and excited by so much beauty and history that in the following days they would experience.   

As they made their way to the apartment, near a major football stadium, some details began to catch their attention. Poorly lit streets, and some passers-by with unfriendly faces. Still, they were finally in the City of Lights, everything was going to be as they had imagined it while planning for this special trip.

However, this would not be the case.

They began to notice that several individuals on motorcycles, including a woman, approached, circling around them, making dangerous cross jumps, until they blocked them completely and did not let them advance. Guillermo and his wife Marina were forced to get out of the vehicle, leaving in it, his young son Mateo, his sister Edith, who has difficulty walking, his seventeen year old granddaughter and two of his daughters, Leticia and Natalia, who was the one who drove.

The situation became even more complicated when one of the criminals tried to open the car door. Faced with this attitude, one of the daughters used all her strength and managed to close the door, while at the same time Natalia accelerated to get away.

Who would have thought that the Rojas family would end up being harassed for an eventual kidnapping or will know what fate these evildoers had in store for them?

As a welcome, the Rojas Alcocer family ended up trying sleep sitting in the police station, while waiting to be questioned to give their statement and identify the criminals. 

Young Mateo, when questioned, was the witness that provided the most precise details that pointed to the perpetrators of the crime and compromised them. For this reason, the police officer who took his statement, took off one of the badges he wore on his uniform and handed it to Mateo in recognition, then another policeman did the same and a third gave him a pair of handcuffs in recognition of his contribution.

Guillermo Rojas Alcocer and his family, worried about what happened on that dark night in the City of Lights, remained sleepless until the wee hours of the morning. (La Semana)
