Luego de que el presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticó las duras restricciones migratorias en Estados Unidos, el gobernador del estado de Florida, Ron DeSantis, se pronunció al respecto.
En conferencia de prensa desde Fort Myers, el mandatario republicano arremetió contra el gobierno de la autollamada “Cuarta Transformación” (4T) al asegurar que en México hay un “desastre” por el control que tienen los cárteles del narcotráfico.
Además, reprochó que el país permita el ingreso de oleadas de migrantes ilegales, sobre todo de Centroamérica y Sudamérica, para que crucen el territorio hasta la frontera norte, en busca del “sueño americano”.
“Tenemos a este presidente mexicano que está criticando a Florida por promulgar leyes contra la migración ilegal. Me parece que él tiene un desastre en sus manos. Tiene cárteles totalmente fuera de control que gobiernan su país y todos los millones de personas que vienen a nuestro país, todos están pasando por su país. ¿Qué clase de país permite que millones de personas atraviesen así?”
Por ello, dijo que además de construir un muro fronterizo para mitigar el ingreso de refugiados, enviaría a los migrantes que cruzan la frontera ilegalmente de regreso a su país de origen, basándose en el Título 8, norma que entró en vigor en EEUU la noche de este jueves.
“No consideraríamos ninguna de estas solicitudes de asilo falsas en la frontera. También deben solicitar asilo en un país seguro (en este caso México), su primer país seguro al que llega. Si alguien cruza cinco países para llegar a nuestra frontera sur, eso no es asilo válido”
El pasado 10 de mayo, DeSantis promulgó una ley que obliga a las empresas de Florida a utilizar el programa de verificación de empleo E-Verify para detectar a trabajadores indocumentados, también para incrementar los fondos públicos para trasladar a migrantes ilegales a estados gobernados por el Partido Demócrata.
Ante esto, López Obrador criticó tal política ya que Florida es un estado lleno de migrantes y lo que hace el gobernador es “tomar medidas represivas, inhumanas en contra de los migrantes en Florida, porque quiere ser candidato”.

“We have this Mexican president who is criticizing Florida for enacting laws against illegal migration. It seems to me that he has a disaster in his hands. He has totally out-of-control cartels that govern his country and all the millions of people who come to our country, all are passing through his country. What kind of country allows millions of people to pass through like this?”
Therefore, he said that in addition to building a border wall to mitigate the entry of refugees, he would send migrants who cross the border illegally back to their country of origin, based on Title 8, a rule that came into force in the United States on Thursday night.

On May 10, DeSantis enacted a law that obliges Florida companies to use the E-Verify employment verification program to detect undocumented workers, also to increase public funds to transfer illegal migrants to states governed by the Democratic Party.
Faced with this, López Obrador criticized such a policy since Florida is a state full of migrants and what the governor does is “take repressive, inhumane measures against migrants in Florida, because he wants to be a candidate.”
DeSantis is the main rival within the Republican party of former President Donald Trump on the way to the 2024 elections.
