Tras caer eliminado el lunes en la final de la Conferencia Oeste de la NBA, la superestrella de Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James sembró dudas sobre su futuro inmediato. Según la cadena ESPN, estaría considerando una posible retirada.

En la rueda de prensa, el máximo anotador histórico de la NBA eludió varias preguntas acerca de su próxima temporada con los Lakers antes de lanzar un críptico mensaje.

«Ya veremos qué pasa de ahora en adelante. No lo sé. Tengo mucho que pensar, para ser honesto. Tengo mucho que pensar. Para mí, personalmente, seguir adelante con el basquet, tengo mucho en lo que pensar», declaró James.

Posteriormente, un reportero de la cadena ESPN informó que James, que aspiraba a futuro a alcanzar sus undécimas Finales y luchar por su quinto anillo, le dijo que considera no jugar el próximo año.

Chris Haynes, reportero de la cadena TNT, dijo a su vez en Twitter que James está «considerando» la retirada a futuro, citando fuentes no identificadas de la liga.

LeBron vivió un amargo cierre de su vigésima temporada en la NBA con la derrota de sus Lakers 113-111 ante los Nuggets, que finiquitaron la serie por un rotundo 4-0.

A sus 38 años, James trató de evitar la eliminación por todos los medios logrando 40 puntos, 10 rebotes y 9 asistencias sin descansar un solo minuto.

En la rueda de prensa, el alero expresó su frustración por la derrota aunque reconoció la superioridad de los Nuggets.

«Ni siquiera he empezado a pensar en el año que viene. Tuvimos una gran trayectoria (en playoffs) pero nos quedamos cortos en nuestro objetivo. Nuestro objetivo es siempre ganar campeonatos. De eso se trata esta franquicia. Es decepcionante», afirmó.

Una agradable sorpresa

Los Lakers fueron una de las sorpresas de estos playoffs después de clasificar en el repechaje y eliminar a los Grizzlies, segundo sembrado del Oeste, y los Warriors, vigentes campeones.

«Creo que (la temporada) estuvo bien. No me gusta decir que fue un año exitoso porque no juego para nada más que ganar campeonatos en este punto de mi carrera. No me entusiasma llegar a las finales de Conferencia. Lo he hecho muchas veces. Y no es divertido para mí no poder ser parte de las Finales», subrayó.

LeBron James tiene dos temporadas más de contrato con los Lakers pero en la segunda tiene una opción de convertirse en agente libre.

El jugador siempre ha declarado su intención de seguir en la liga hasta jugar con su hijo Bronny, quien puede ser seleccionado a partir del Draft de 2024.

The Lakers were one of the surprises of these playoffs after qualifying in the playoff and eliminating the Grizzlies, second seed of the West, and the Warriors, current champions.

“I think (the season) was good. I don’t like to say that it was a successful year because I don’t play for anything other than winning championships at this point in my career. I’m not excited to make it to the Conference finals. I have done it many times. And it’s not fun for me not to be able to be part of the Finals,” he stressed.

LeBron James has two more seasons of contract with the Lakers but in the second he has an option to become a free agent.

The player has always declared his intention to continue in the league until he plays with his son Bronny, who can be selected from the 2024 Draft.
