El presidente mexicano Andrés Manuel López Obrador aseguró este miércoles que ha habido avances en el control de la migración con Estados Unidos, luego de que se reunió con Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, asesora de Seguridad Nacional de la Casa Blanca.

El mandatario exhibió en su conferencia diaria una gráfica que muestra que a finales del año pasado se detectaron 250.000 migrantes en la frontera entre ambos países. Mientras que en mayo el número ha descendido a casi 150.000 tras el fin del Título 42 de Estados Unidos.

El gobernante respaldó el plan del gobierno de Joe Biden, que consiste en otorgar 360.000 permisos humanitarios para Cuba, Haití, Nicaragua y Venezuela, e instalar centros de procesamiento de asilo en Centro y Suramérica para evitar que migrantes transiten por México.

“A partir de que se inició con este plan, a pesar de que en mayo hubo una situación especial por la quita del apartado que se creó con motivo de la pandemia, una discusión legal, miren cómo ha bajado considerablemente”, presumió López Obrador.

“Muy buena” reunión

El presidente calificó de “muy buena” la reunión con Sherwood-Randall, quien ha visitado México tres veces en menos de tres meses en medio de las discusiones por la migración y el fentanilo.

En este último encuentro, López Obrador pidió a Washington replicar los 150 millones de dólares que México ha invertido en desarrollo de Centroamérica.

Pero recalcó que la nueva política migratoria de Biden, implementada tras el fin del Título 42 el 11 de mayo, “es un proceso ordenado y es muy bueno porque se evita el riesgo que significa atravesar todo el territorio (de México) para llegar a Estados Unidos”.

“Es algo muy importante que ha ayudado bastante, a partir de que se implementó esta medida, que es una decisión del gobierno de presidente Biden que nosotros reconocemos mucho”, sostuvo.

Por otro lado, el presidente defendió los avances de México en el control de fentanilo ante la creciente presión de Estados Unidos, donde legisladores republicanos piden declarar la guerra a los cárteles mexicanos y designarlos como terroristas.

“Hemos avanzado y vamos avanzando, desde luego controlando los puertos y destruyendo los laboratorios, haciendo nuestro trabajo”, aseveró.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Wednesday that there has been advances in the control of migration with the United States,  after he met with Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, National Security Advisor of the White House.

The president exhibited in his daily conference a graph showing that at the end of last year 250,000 migrants were detected on the border between the two countries. While in May the number has fallen to almost 150,000 after the end of Title 42 of the United States.

The ruler supported the plan of Joe Biden’s government, which consists of granting 360,000 humanitarian permits for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, and installing asylum processing centers in Central and South America to prevent migrants from transiting through Mexico.

“Since this plan began, despite the fact that in May there was a special situation due to the withdrawal of the section that was created due to the pandemic, a legal discussion, look how it has decreased considerably,” López Obrador boasted.

“Very good” meeting

The president described the meeting with Sherwood-Randall, who has visited Mexico three times in less than three months in the midst of discussions about migration and fentanyl, as “very good.”

In this last meeting, López Obrador asked Washington to replicate the 150 million dollars that Mexico has invested in the development of Central America.

But he stressed that Biden’s new immigration policy, implemented after the end of Title 42 on May 11, “is an orderly process and is very good because the risk of crossing the entire territory (of Mexico) to reach the United States is avoided.”

“It is something very important that has helped a lot, since this measure was implemented, which is a decision of the government of President Biden that we recognize a lot,” he said.

On the other hand, the president defended Mexico’s advances in the control of fentanyl in the face of increasing pressure from the United States, where Republican legislators ask to declare war on Mexican cartels and designate them as terrorists.

“We have advanced and we are moving forward, of course controlling the ports and destroying the laboratories, doing our job,” he said.
