El Balón de Oro de 2023, el sustituto de Karim Benzema y de Alexia Putellas, será entregado el próximo 30 de octubre en el transcurso de una gala en París, indicaron este viernes los organizadores.

El próximo 6 de septiembre se conocerán los candidatos en las diferentes categorías del premio; tanto el Balón de Oro masculino y femenino como el premio Kopa al mejor joven y el Yashin al mejor portero.

Por su parte, los nominados al premio Sócrates serán revelados el 7 de julio. Este reconocimiento recompensa futbolistas implicados en acciones sociales o caritativas.

El Balón de Oro, en francés, Ballon d’Or, es un premio otorgado anualmente por la revista francesa especializada France Football.​

Entregado ininterrumpidamente desde 1956, a partir de 2009 se fusionó con el premio homólogo del FIFA World Player. Estos designarían al mejor futbolista hasta que ambos galardones volvieron a separarse en 2016. En 2020, a causa del coronavirus, France Football decidió no entregar el galardón en esta edición.

Instituido en 1956 por el entonces director de la revista y precursor de la Copa de Europa, Gabriel Hanot, inicialmente el galardón estuvo dirigido exclusivamente a jugadores que contaran con alguna nacionalidad europea, siendo el primer ganador el inglés Stanley Matthews. En ese año jugaba para el Blackpool Football Club.

Un jurado formado exclusivamente por periodistas especializados de las principales publicaciones deportivas mundiales dictaminan los vencedores del premio.
