Succession leads the Emmy Award nominations
by AFP – The HBO series reached 27 nominations for the awards that will be given on September 18, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series
The HBO Succession drama series, which follows the conflicts and ambitions of a powerful family at the head of a media empire, leads the Emmy race with 27 nominations.
The nominations for the so-called Oscars of American television, announced this Wednesday in a virtual ceremony, place the acclaimed program at the forefront of the dispute for the award for the second consecutive year.
The Last of Us, the adaptation of the video game made by HBO, is still in the competition with 24 nominations, including one for the Chilean-American Pedro Pascal in the category of Best Actor in a Drama Series.
The White Lotus satire, which explores the diatrives of the rich in paradisiacal places, stood out with 23 nominations, including Best Dramatic Series and Best Supporting Actress in a dramatic series for Jennifer Coolidge, who also participated in the first season.
Ted Lasso, the Apple TV+ comedy that follows an American football coach who tries his luck at the head of a soccer team in England, stood out again in the Emmy nominations with 21 chances to get a statuette.
The 75ª Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled for September 18; however, the lavish event is threatened by the situation in Hollywood.
While the writers have already been on pickets outside the studios for more than two months, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) could go on strike at midnight this Wednesday if they do not reach a contractual agreement with the studios.
Screenwriters and actors fight for salary improvements and other benefits.
A double strike in Hollywood, something not seen since 1960, could almost completely paralyze the tinsel city, and force, among other things, to postpone the ceremony.
