El León de la Liga MX derrotó al Vancouver Whitecaps 16-15 en una eterna serie de penaltis que llegó hasta los 38 disparos para conseguir el punto extra en la primera jornada de la Leagues Cup, luego de sumar una unidad tras empatar a dos tantos en el tiempo regular
En el tiempo regular, la fiera se adelató por conducto de Iván Moreno; sin embargo, Vancouver vino de atrás y con doblete de Sergio Córdova le dio la vuelta al marcador. Los canadienses parecían tener en las manos el triunfo, pero llegó Elías Hernándezpara mandar las cosas a los penaltis, donde salieron airosos.
Orlando derrota en penales al Dynamo
Pedro Gallese salvó el intento de Héctor Herrera de abrir la tanda de penaltis, y el anfitrión Orlando City se impuso al Dynamo tras un empate reglamentario. El concurso fue el primero en el Grupo Sur 2, que también incluye al Santos Laguna de México.
Amine Bassi le dio a Houston la ventaja al convertir un tiro penal en el tiempo de descuento de la primera mitad.
Orlando respondió con un gol a los 32 segundos del segundo tiempo. El portero del Dynamo, Andrew Tarbell, entregó el balón a Duncan McGuire que cargaba dentro de su propia área de penalti, y McGuire hizo rodar el balón hacia la red desocupada.

La volea deslizante de Ben Bender tras una asistencia de Ashley Westwood empató el partido para Charlotte en el séptimo minuto del tiempo de descuento de la segunda mitad, y los visitantes vencieron al FC Dallas en Frisco, Texas, en el primer partido del Grupo South 4.
En la tanda, Kristijan Kahlina detuvo los dos primeros intentos de Dallas, de Sebastian Lletget y Marco Farfán. Charlotte convirtió sus cuatro tiros penales y Patrick Agyemang marcó el gol decisivo.
Mazatlán levanta la mano por la Liga MX
David Colman, Andrés Montaño y Eduard Bello anotaron goles en la segunda mitad cuando Mazatlán prevaleció en Austin, Texas, para convertirse en el primer equipo mexicano en ganar un partido de la Copa de las Ligas.
Colman abrió el marcador en el Grupo 1 Sur en el minuto 49, y Diego Fagundez de Austin empató con un tiro penal en el minuto 65. Montano adelantó definitivamente a los visitantes dos minutos después y Bello selló el gol en el 88′. El grupo también incluye a Juárez de la Liga MX.

The Lion of the Liga MX defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 16-15 in an eternal series of penalties that reached up to 38 shots to get the extra point on the first day of the Leagues Cup, after adding a unit after tying to two goals in regular time
In regular time, the beast was ahead through Iván Moreno; however, Vancouver came from behind and with a double by Sergio Córdova he turned the scoreboard around. The Canadians seemed to have the victory in their hands, but Elías Hernández arrived to send things to the penalties, where they were successful.
Orlando defeats Dynamo on penalties
