Agencia EFE – Washington, 1 sep (EFE).- La Policía del municipio de Blendon (EE.UU.) dio a conocer este viernes un vídeo que muestra a unos de sus agentes disparar mortalmente contra una joven negra embarazada a través del parabrisas del vehículo en el que se encontraba.
El incidente se produjo la semana pasada cuando la joven, Ta’kiya Young, de 21 años, fue acusada por el empleado de una tienda de alimentación de robar unas botellas de alcohol. A consecuencias del disparo, Young y el feto murieron.
Las autoridades no han dado a conocer las identidades de los agentes involucrados ni la raza de la víctima, que ha sido identificada por organizaciones comunitarias como una mujer negra.
El vídeo, captado con la cámara corporal del autor del disparo, se inicia cuando Young se encontraba en el interior de un vehículo en el aparcamiento de un centro comercial de Westerville, un suburbio al norte de Columbus.
Un agente está junto al puerta del conductor solicitando repetidamente a Young que salga del vehículo mientras otro policía, con la cámara corporal, se sitúa frente al automóvil.
Young, con dos hijos de 6 y 3 años, dice que no ha sustraído nada de la tienda y se resiste a abandonar el vehículo. En ese momento, el agente situado frente al automóvil apunta su pistola a la joven embarazada mientras también la conmina a bajarse.
Cuando el vehículo empieza a moverse, el agente dispara una vez contra Young. Tras el disparo, el coche rueda lentamente y se estrella contra el centro comercial mientras Young aparece recostada en el asiento del copiloto.
Este viernes, el jefe de Policía de Blendon, John Belford, señaló en un comunicado que el autor del disparo mortal se encuentra de baja administrativa y que ha solicitado a la Oficina de Investigación Criminal de Ohio que realice una investigación independiente de lo sucedido.
Belford justificó el retraso en la publicación del vídeo por la necesidad de suprimir algunos extractos de acuerdo a las leyes estatales, así como para permitir su revisión por parte de los abogados.
La policía de EE.UU. ha sido acusada de forma repetida por organizaciones de derechos humanos de usar la violencia de manera desproporcionada hacia la población negra en el país.
Según datos de Mapping Police Violence, que recopila datos nacionales de la violencia policial, en 2022 la Policía mató a al menos 1.201 personas en Estados Unidos. De ellos, el 26 % fueron de raza negra a pesar de que sólo representan un 13 % de la población estadounidense, explicó esa asociación.

By Max Matza – BBC News – Police in Ohio have released bodycam footage showing an officer fatally shooting a pregnant black woman.
Ta’Kiya Young, 21, died on 24 August when she was shot while in her car outside a Kroger grocery store in Blendon Township, a suburb of Columbus.
Footage shows officers attempting to question her for alleged shoplifting.
One officer standing in front of her car is seen in the video released on Friday firing directly towards her as she appears to drive in his direction.
The video shows the two officers speaking with Ms Young for about one minute before the shot is fired.
One officer is seen standing at her door and repeatedly telling her to “get out of the car”.
“For what?” she responds twice, adding: “I’m not going to do that.”
One officer seen in front of the car has his left hand on the bonnet, his gun drawn in the other hand.
“Are you going to shoot me?” she says moments before a single shot is fired and the officer quickly moves out of the car’s path.
Officers are then seen breaking her window after the car rolls into the brick wall near the entrance of the store.
Officers say they attempted to perform medical aid, but neither the mother of two nor her unborn child survived the shooting.
“This was a tragedy. Ms Young’s family is understandably very upset and grieving,” Blendon Police Chief John Belford said in a statement on Friday.
“While none of us can fully understand the depths of their pain, all of us can remember them in our prayers and give them the time and space to deal with this heart-breaking turn of events.”
Both officers, who have not been identified, were in the car park for an unrelated call. They were both placed on administrative leave after the shooting.
The officer that stood at the car window has been returned to duty but the one that fired the shot remains on leave.
The video was viewed by Ms Young’s family before it was released on Friday.
In a statement, the family said the shooting “is clearly a criminal act” and was “avoidable”.
The Blendon Township police department have asked the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation to look into the shooting.
Ms Young was the mother of two boys, aged six and three. Her family say she was due to give birth in November.
