Incendio en restaurantes cercanos al centro de la ciudad / Fire strikes restaurants near downtown

TULSA, OK – Los equipos del Departamento de Bomberos de Tulsa (TFD) respondieron a un incendio de 4 alarmas en un par de lugares populares del centro y un apartamento el pasado sábado.

El fuego se produjo el sábado por la tarde alrededor de las 17:00 en el restaurante Lowood Modern Woodfire, situado en el 817 East 3rd Street, y luego se extendió a la cafetería y bar Hodges Bend, situado al lado. En un momento dado, el cuerpo de bomberos tenía 12 camiones, 6 escaleras, 3 jefes de distrito y la mayor parte del personal de mando en la escena. 

Los equipos dicen que el fuego parece haber comenzado en un restaurante antes de extenderse a las unidades de apartamentos contiguos. 

“En un principio recibimos informes de que un residente estaba atrapado en el edificio”, declaró el TFD. “Los bomberos buscaron inmediatamente en la estructura para asegurarse de que todos los residentes estaban fuera del edificio. Se determinó que todos evacuaron de forma segura”.

Propietarios de negocios, empleados y vecinos expresaron su conmoción.

“El sábado por la noche, el East End Village fue golpeado por la tragedia y nuestros corazones están rotos por nuestros empleados de Lowood y Hodges Bend, así como por los residentes que se han visto afectados por el incendio”, declararon los propietarios de Lowood en el sitio web del restaurante. “Aunque hemos estado luchando esta noche y esta mañana, nos sentimos increíblemente sostenidos por la comunidad de Tulsa. Gracias a todos desde el fondo de nuestros corazones por la efusión de amor y apoyo que han mostrado a nuestro equipo. El TFD declaró que el edificio tiene múltiples huecos que permiten que el fuego se desplace por todo el edificio. Un techo metálico entre las plantas ha dificultado enormemente el acceso de los equipos a los huecos y la extinción completa del incendio. En un momento dado, los equipos tuvieron que salir de la estructura para iniciar un ataque exterior. 

East Third Street y South Lansing Avenue permanecieron bloqueadas el día después del incendio. No se ha informado de heridos.

Fire strikes restaurants near downtown

TULSA, OK — Crews from the Tulsa Fire Deparment (TFD) responded to a 4-alarm fire at a pair of popular downtown venues and an apartment on Saturday.

Fire broke out Saturday evening around 5:00 pm at Lowood Modern Woodfire restaurant, located at 817 East 3rd Street, then spread to Hodges Bend coffeeshop and bar next door. At one point the fire department had 12 engines, 6 ladders, 3 district chiefs and most of the command staff on the scene. 

Crews say the fire appears to have started at a restaurant before spreading to adjoining apartment units. 

“We originally received reports that a resident was trapped in the building,” the TFD stated. “Firefighters immediately searched the structure to ensure that all residents were out of the building. It was determined that everyone evacuated safely.”

Business owners, employees, and neighbors expressed shock.

“On Saturday evening, the East End Village was struck with tragedy and our hearts are breaking for our Lowood and Hodges Bend employees as well as for the residents who have been affected by the fire,” Lowood’s owners stated on the restaurant’s website. “While we have been struggling this evening and morning, we feel incredibly held by the Tulsa Community. The TFD stated that the building has multiple voids allowing fire to travel throughout the building. A metal ceiling between the floors has made it extremely difficult for crews to access the voids and completely extinguish the blaze. At one point, crews had to exit the structure to begin an exterior attack. 

East Third Street and South Lansing Avenue remained blocked the day after the fire. No injuries have been reported.
