A través de las redes sociales oficiales de One Direction, los exmiembros de la agrupación Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles y Louis Tomlinson emitieron un comunicado sobre la sensible muerte Liam Payne, quien el pasado 16 de octubre cayó desde un tercer piso de un hotel en Buenos Aires, Argentina en lo que muchos medios y fanáticos especulan, fue un suicidio.
“Estamos completamente devastados por la noticia de la muerte de Liam. En su momento, y cuando todos seamos capaces de hacerlo, habrá más que decir. Pero por ahora, nos tomaremos un tiempo para llorar y procesar la pérdida de nuestro hermano, a quien queríamos profundamente. Las memorias que compartimos con él las atesoraremos por siempre. Por ahora, nuestros pensamientos están con su familia, sus amigos y los fanáticos que lo amaron junto con nosotros. Lo extrañaremos terriblemente. Te amamos Liam. La difícil carrera de Liam Payne en One Direction
One Direction comenzó en 2010 en el programa X Factor como un experimento del famoso directivo británico de la empresa musical Sony Music, Simon Cowell. La boy band fue un éxito arrollador, con millones de dólares en ventas de discos y en entradas para sus shows, además de posicionarse en en lo más alto de los rankings musicales del mundo. Sin embargo, el precio de la fama fue muy alto para el quinteto, que tan sólo cinco años después de su creación, se desintegró para que cada uno pudiera seguir sus propios caminos en la industria.
Liam fue probablemente el que más se vio abrumado por el éxito de One Direction, encontrando en el alcohol y las drogas una especie de placebo para lidiar con todo aquello; paralelamente, el músico fue desarrollando una fuerte depresión que, aparentemente, terminó costándole la vida.
“Estaba borracho bastante a menudo porque no había otra manera de entender lo que estaba sucediendo (…) Es difícil cuando tienes el nivel de fama que teníamos en la banda”, dijo Liam Payne en entrevista para Men’s Health Australia allá por 2019, tan sólo un año después de haber comenzado su carrera como solista.
En aquella entrevista, Liam llegó a comparar su trayectoria en One Direction con “ponerse un disfraz de Disney”, pues se veía obligado a poner una sonrisa cuando por dentro se sentía muy mal.
“Es casi como ponerse el disfraz de Disney antes de subir al escenario, y bajo el disfraz de Disney yo estaba cabreado la mayor parte del tiempo, porque no había otra forma de entender lo que estaba pasando. Fue divertido. Nos lo pasamos genial, pero hubo ciertas partes en las que fue un poco tóxico”.
La infame pelea entre Liam Payne y Zayn Malik
Durante un episodio de 2022 del pódcast Impaulsive conducido por Logan Paul, Liam Payne virtió todo su enojo hacia un miembro de One Direction: Zayn Malik. Payne evidenció que se sentía frustrado con Malik por haber abandonado por haber sido el primero en abandonar a la agrupación, pero también confesó que, de cierta forma, entendía el comportamiento y las razones que lo habían llevado a tomar esa decisión.
“Hay muchas razones por las que no me gusta Zayn y hay muchas razones por las que siempre estaré de su lado”, compartió Liam. “Mis padres me apoyan demasiado, hasta el punto de que a veces es molesto, y Zayn tuvo una educación diferente en ese sentido. No estoy de acuerdo con sus acciones, no puedo estar de su lado. Lo entiendo y espero que algún día, la otra persona al otro lado del teléfono quiera recibir la ayuda”.
