POR EFE – La gimnasta estadounidense Simone Biles y el saltador de pértiga sueco Armand Mondo Duplantis, han sido elegidos como los Atletas AIPS (Asociación Internacional de Prensa Deportiva) de 2024, según la votación de 518 periodistas de 111 países.

Biles, ganadora de tres medallas olímpicas y una plata en París 2024, obtuvo 703 votos para alzarse por quinta vez con el premio a Mejor Atleta Femenina del Año. Con tan solo 27 años ya ostenta 11 preseas (siete oros, dos platas y dos bronces) y es la gimnasta olímpica estadounidense más condecorada de todos los tiempos.

Con 337 votos y en segunda posición, se encuentra la futbolista española Aitana Bonmatí, vigente Balón de Oro y Premio The Best. En tercera posición y con 263 puntos se encuentra Julien Alfred, primer oro olímpico de la historia de Santa Lucía en los 100 metros lisos y medallista de plata en 200 metros lisos.

Duplantis obtuvo un total de 603 votos y superó al serbio Novak Djokovic (368) tras batir su noveno récord mundial con 6,25 metros y convertirse en el primer campeón consecutivo de salto de pértiga masculino. El sueco posee también los ocho mejores saltos de 2024, con tan solo 25 años.

El ciclista esloveno Tadej Pogačar alcanzó la tercera posición con 294 puntos. Ganador de la ‘Triple Corona’, con el Tour de Francia masculino, el Giro de Italia y el título mundial en el mismo año, algo que no ocurría desde el 1987.

Armand Duplantis and Simone Biles chosen as AIPS Athletes of 2024

U.S. gymnast Simone Biles and Swedish pole vaulter Armand Mondo Duplantis have been chosen as the AIPS (International Press Association for Sports) Athletes of 2024, according to a vote of 518 journalists from 111 countries.

Biles, winner of three Olympic medals and a silver medal at Paris 2024, received 703 votes to win the Female Athlete of the Year award for the fifth time. At just 27 years old, she already has 11 medals (seven golds, two silvers and two bronzes) and is the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time.

With 337 votes and in second place is Spanish soccer player Aitana Bonmatí, the reigning Ballon d’Or and The Best Award winner. In third position and with 263 points is Julien Alfred, the first Olympic gold medalist in the history of Saint Lucia in the 100-meter dash and silver medalist in the 200-meter dash.

Duplantis obtained a total of 603 votes and surpassed Serbia’s Novak Djokovic (368) after breaking his ninth world record with 6.25 meters and becoming the first consecutive men’s pole vault champion. The Swede also owns the eight best jumps of 2024, at just 25 years of age.
