Alfredo Herrera (1944 – 2019) Descansa en paz

BARTLESVILLE, OK — Alfredo Herrera dejó este mundo en paz el pasado miércoles 13 de febrero del 2019 a la edad de 79 años. 

Nació el 30 de septiembre de 1944 en el pueblo de Parral, Chihuahua, México, hijo de Esteban y Velia Herrera. Comenzó a trabajar en el mercado de la familia desde muy pequeño y siempre se las arregló para hacer dinero. Nació emprendedor, vendiendo caramelos y limonadas en los estadios de beisbol que encontraba en el camino. En 1958 su familia se mudó a Juarez donde Alfredo manejaba su bicicleta como empleado recaudador de una mueblería. Con ese mismo trabajo, el de tesorero, empezó a trabajar en la cámara de comercio, donde permaneció hasta que murió su jefe. 

En 1964 abrió su primer restaurante Mr.Quick y conoció a su gran amigo Jesus Rodriguez. Cuando vendió el restaurante, Alfredo, Jesús y otros tres amigos decidieron mudarse a Chicago para probar suerte en la industria de la construcción, pero Dios les puso otros planes en el camino. El auto en el que viajaban los amigos se rompió a la altura de Tulsa en la calle 41 y Memorial, justo en frente del Kentucky Fried Chicken Warehouse, con tan solo $26 en el bolsillo Alfredo inició una carrera en KFC. Se convirtió en manager de una tienda en Barletsville donde contrató a una hermosa joven que más tarde se convertiría en el amor de su vida. Alfredo y Donna se casaron el 10 de abril de 1975, y en 1979 asociaron a Esteban, hermano de Alfredo, en una franquicia de KFC. Juntos fueron propietarios y operadores de 8 KFC y seis restaurantes Alfredo. 

Alfredo tenía el corazón más cálido y siempre ayudó a todos los que necesitaban, aún a los extraños. Uno de sus principales logros fue poder ofrecer una fiesta de acción de gracias a quienes no tenían nada para festejar, algo que hizo como tradición en uno de sus restaurantes Alfredo’s en Bartlesville. 

Alfredo amaba pasar tiempo junto a su familia, malcriando a sus nietos, participando de la santa misa y disfrutando junto a sus amigos. Lo extrañaremos siempre, pero nunca olvidaremos.  

Fue precedido en muerte por sus padres y sobrevivido por su mujer Donna de Bartlesville, OK; su hija Christina, su esposo Shane Hand, y sus hijos Bella y Jaxon de Bartlesville, OK; su hijo , Alfredo Jr., su esposa Kelly, y los niños Ramona y Alfredo III, de Tulsa, OK; su hija , Melissa, su esposo Brandon Smith, y sus hijos Bentley, Olive, Archer, Sullivan, y Ralph de Collinsville, OK., y sus tres hermanos: Esteban, Roberto, Hector, y dos hermanas: Dorita y Elizabeth, con sus sobrinos y sobrinas. 

El funeral se realizó el lunes 18 de febrero del 2019 en la iglesia Happy Hill de Ramona, OK con la presencia del Pastor Jack Richey.

Alfredo Herrera (1944 – 2019) 

BARTLESVILLE, OK — Alfredo Herrera passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the age of 74. 

He was born on September 30, 1944 in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico to Esteban and Velia Herrera. He began working at the family grocery store at a very young age and was always finding ways to make money. He was a born entrepreneur, selling pop and later lemonade at the local baseball fields. In 1958, the family moved to Juarez, MX where Alfredo rode his bicycle as a bill collector for a furniture store. Sticking with the bill collector title, he began working for the Chamber of Commerce. He remained working there until his boss passed away. 

In 1964, he opened his first restaurant, Mr. Quick, where he met his life-long friend, Jesus Rodriguez. When he later sold the restaurant, Alfredo, Jesus and three other friends decided to move to Chicago to work construction, but God had other plans. The car they were driving broke down in Tulsa, OK at 41st and Memorial, across the street from the Kentucky Fried Chicken Warehouse with only $26 in his pocket and thus started his KFC career. While managing a KFC store in Bartlesville, OK, he hired a beautiful girl, who later became the love of his life. Alfredo and Donna got married on April 10, 1975. In 1979, he invited his brother, Esteban, to become his partner in a KFC franchise. Together they owned and operated eight KFC’s and six Alfredo’s Mexican Restaurants. 

Alfredo had the biggest heart, always helping anyone and everyone he could, even total strangers. One of his proudest accomplishments was being able to provide a Thanksgiving feast to those who may not have otherwise had one. He was able to do that for many years at the Alfredo’s location in Bartlesville. 

Alfredo enjoyed spending time with his family, spoiling his grandkids, going to church and being with friends. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Bartlesville, OK; their daughter, Christina, her husband Shane Hand, and their children Bella and Jaxon of Bartlesville, OK; their son, Alfredo Jr., his wife Kelly, and their children Ramona and Alfredo III, of Tulsa, OK; their daughter, Melissa, her husband Brandon Smith, and their children, Bentley, Olive, Archer, Sullivan, and Ralph of Collinsville, OK., three brothers: Esteban, Roberto, Hector, two sisters: Dorita and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Happy Hill Church in Ramona, OK with Pastor Jack Richey officiating.
