El jardinero derecho, Mookie Betts anotó la carrera de la ventaja, que amplió después con un jonrón, para que los Dodgers de Los Ángeles ganaran la Serie Mundial por primera vez desde 1988, al imponerse este martes 3-1 sobre los Rays de Tampa Bay en el sexto juego.

Los Dodgers ostentaron la mejor foja de las Grandes Ligas durante esta campaña abreviada por la pandemia de coronavirus. Y en el encuentro del martes, remontaron para ceñirse al fin la corona que se les había escapado durante más de 30 años.

El equipo angelino, que durante la reducida temporada regular habían tenido la mejor marca de las Grandes Ligas, disputaban por vigésima cuarta vez el Clásico de Otoño, anteriormente lo habían ganado en las ediciones de 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965 y 1981.

Junto a Betts, que impuso de nuevo su poder con el bate y velocidad, los grandes triunfadores del partido fueron los lanzadores zurdos mexicanos, Víctor González, que se quedó con la victoria como relevista y Julio Urías con el rescate.

González (1-0), que fue el quinto de los siete lanzadores que utilizaron los Dodgers, trabajó una entrada y un terció para sacar el tercer «out» del quinto episodio y los tres del sexto con una labor perfecta de tres ponches.

Urías se encargó de sacar los últimos siete «outs» del partido con otra labor magistral desde el montículo del Globe Life Field, de Arlington (Texas), sede burbuja neutral de la Serie Mundial, y se quedó con el rescate.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2020 World Series in Game 6 Tuesday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1.

It was the longest of waits for the LA Dodgers and their long-suffering fans. The last World Series title was back in 1988. That’s 32 long years. Yet they have played in three of the last four World Series — including in 2017, losing to the Houston Astros (who, as you may recall, cheated–or more accurately–illegally used technology to steal signs and relay upcoming pitches to Astros batters).

But it took this most unusual of years for the Dodgers to find a way to win it all. Major League Baseball shortened its regular season from the usual 162-games to just 60 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Games were played in teams’ home stadiums without fans. A few early-season COVID outbreaks threatened to derail the season altogether.

The Dodgers to become the top team in baseball, finishing with the best regular season persevered record. LA led with its offensive prowess, quality pitching and stellar defense. Both Los Angeles and Tampa Bay sparkled during the World Series with momentum swings, long home runs and impressive defensive stops. But LA always found a way to win.

In a bit of postseason scheduling luck, the Dodgers essentially had home field advantage. They played the National Division Series, the N.L. Championship and the World Series in the same stadium: Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Major League Baseball played almost the entire playoffs at neutral sites to minimize travel and reduce the coronavirus exposure risk. It was the first time since 1944 that the World Series was held at a single site.
