By Jennah James – BIXBY, Okla. — People who live in Bixby will once again be able to enjoy local fruits, veggies, eggs and meats. The City is bringing back their farmers market after it’s been on hiatus for years.

In addition to about 20 vendors at the Bixby Farmers Market, Dawes Avenue will be blocked off for food trucks.

This is a project that’s been in the works for about five years and it’s finally coming to fruition.

“My husband and I are willing to put it on ourselves. The City is obviously helping us, and so we’re really excited to get it going and get it started again,” said Ashleigh Ward, president of the Bixby Farmers Market.

The last time the City of Bixby had a farmers market was in 2019.

Ashleigh Ward’s family has lived in the area since 1927.

With her roots dug deep, she wants to invest in the town and support local farmers.

“I think it’s just important to bring everyone back together. Shop local, eat local and support local,” Ward said.

She said most of the feedback has been positive. Though some are concerned that the farmers market will be on Sundays.

“We want to assure everybody we’ll have parking for everyone in church,” Ward said.

Plus, she said, having it on Sundays gives farmers a chance to sell their fresh products an additional day.

“With having it on Sunday, most markets are on Saturday, so it reduces in spoilage, it reduces in loss for these farmers to be able to come and sell Saturday and Sunday,” Ward said.

Something new they wanted to try this farmers market is bringing children in as vendors, so that little entrepreneurs can gain big skills running a business.

“We’ve got our permits and everything in hand, so, we’re good to go,” Ward said.

Ward and her husband hope the Bixby Farmers Market will become so successful at Charley Young Park that they will outgrow the space and have to relocate next year.

The farmers market begins Sunday, April 7.

Además de unos 20 vendedores en el mercado de agricultores de Bixby, la avenida Dawes estará bloqueada para los camiones de comida.

Este es un proyecto que ha estado en marcha durante unos cinco años y finalmente está llegando a buen término.

“Mi marido y yo estamos dispuestos a ponérnoslo a nosotros mismos. Obviamente, la Ciudad nos está ayudando, por lo que estamos muy emocionados de ponerlo en marcha y empezar de nuevo”, dijo Ashleigh Ward, presidenta del Mercado de Agricultores de Bixby.

La última vez que la ciudad de Bixby tuvo un mercado de agricultores fue en 2019.

La familia de Ashleigh Ward ha vivido en la zona desde 1927.

Con sus raíces profundamente excavadas, quiere invertir en la ciudad y apoyar a los agricultores locales.

“Creo que es importante volver a reunir a todos. Compre localmente, coma localmente y apoye a los locales”, dijo Ward.

Dijo que la mayoría de los comentarios han sido positivos. Aunque a algunos les preocupa que el mercado de agricultores sea los domingos.

“Queremos asegurar a todos que tendremos estacionamiento para todos en la iglesia”, dijo Ward.

Además, dijo, tenerlo los domingos da a los agricultores la oportunidad de vender sus productos frescos un día más.

“Con tenerlo el domingo, la mayoría de los mercados son el sábado, por lo que reduce el deterioro, reduce la pérdida para que estos agricultores puedan venir a vender el sábado y el domingo”, dijo Ward.

Algo nuevo que querían probar en este mercado de agricultores es traer a los niños como vendedores, para que los pequeños empresarios puedan adquirir grandes habilidades para dirigir un negocio.

“Tenemos nuestros permisos y todo a mano, así que estamos listos para ir”, dijo Ward.

Ward y su esposo esperan que el Mercado de Agricultores de Bixby tenga tanto éxito en Charley Young Park que superen el espacio y tengan que mudarse el próximo año.

El mercado de agricultores comienza el domingo 7 de abril.
