Un pastor de una iglesia de Jacksonville, en el noreste de Florida (EE.UU.), fue arrestado y acusado este jueves de supuestos abusos sexuales de menores que tuvieron lugar durante unos 30 años, cargos presentados tras una redada policial realizada el miércoles en su iglesia, informó la oficina del alguacil de la citada ciudad.
Paul Dyal, de 78 años, pastor de la iglesia Asamblea del Cuerpo de Cristo, fue detenido en la noche del miércoles tras una “investigación” que comenzó en septiembre de 2020 y “reveló abuso sexual y físico de menores en la iglesia durante más de 30 años”, señaló en un comunicado la oficina del alguacil de Jacksonville.
En el momento del arresto del pastor también se llevó a cabo la detención en Oklahoma de Jerome Teschendorf, de 68 años, y de Vernon Williamson, de 85, ambos acusados de “agresión sexual capital” y vinculados al caso.
La oficina del alguacil señaló que, durante la investigación, los agentes de la policía “identificaron y hablaron con numerosas víctimas (tanto hombres como mujeres) y testigos” y es probable que haya más de una docena de víctimas de abusos sexuales cometidos por Dylan, quien permanece detenido sin derecho a fianza.
De ser declarado culpable, el pastor podría ser sentenciado a cadena perpetua.
Una de las víctimas de abusos sexuales, una mujer que prefirió mantener el anonimato, dijo al canal News4JAX que los abusos se sucedieron durante unos cinco años cuando ella tenía cinco años.

Jacksonville pastor, 2 others arrested in child sex abuse that went on for decades, police say
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville pastor and 2 other men were arrested in connection with a sexual and physical abuse investigation at a church in the Biltmore area.
“The investigation revealed both long-term sexual and physical abuse of minors in the church spanning a period of over thirty years,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a news release about the Jacksonville Assembly of the Body of Christ Church.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the following men have been arrested:
Paul Dyal, Pastor, 78 years old; Arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Charged with Capital Sexual Battery (victim 11 years of age or younger). Dyal appeared in court in Jacksonville on Thursday. He was not granted bond and his next court hearing is set for March 31.
In addition to the arrest warrants served for Dyal, Teschendorf and Williamson, a search warrant was served at the church, JSO said.
JSO said it has identified and spoken with numerous victims and witnesses and said it believes there are additional suspects, victims and witnesses.
Cynthia Crawford, who is representing some of the victims in this case, told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant that Williamson and Teschendorf used to be in Jacksonville and were working at a sister church in Oklahoma.
Crawford also said the investigation spans more states than just Florida and Oklahoma.
She said “they intend to prove that this has been happening for over 40 years in our own backyard.”
The U.S. Marshals, the State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families also assisted JSO in the investigation.
