BOGOTÁ.- El presidente de Colombia, Iván Duque, ejerció su derecho al voto este domingo, inaugurando la jornada electoral, y pidió a los colombianos hacerlo «con la mano en el corazón» a la vez que destacó el «hito histórico» de que las víctimas del conflicto puedan elegir por primera vez a 16 representantes a la Cámara.

Este domingo, además de escoger la nueva composición del Senado y la Cámara de Representantes, así como a los aspirantes a la Presidencia de tres coaliciones, en una especie de internas, los colombianos de las zonas rurales más golpeadas por el conflicto armado podrán elegir a 16 «curules de paz».

«Hoy, por primera vez, las víctimas van a estar presentes a través del voto popular, un hito histórico que nos tiene que enorgullecer a todos porque era impensable que solamente se le hubiera dado cabida a los victimarios», consideró el mandatario colombiano.

Duque fue el primer ciudadano en ejercer su derecho al voto, a las 8.00 en punto en la mesa electoral número 1, instalada en el Capitolio Nacional, situado en el costado sur de la Plaza de Bolívar de Bogotá, y llegó acompañado de la primera dama, María Juliana Ruiz, junto a miembros de su equipo de Gobierno.

«Los ciudadanos deben votar con la mano en el corazón, con la conciencia tranquila, sin presiones», indicó Duque, tras depositar los tarjetones en las urnas.

El mandatario consideró que este día debe ser «una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre la sensatez de las propuestas y en la que se rechace la polarización y la demagogia».

Asimismo, el presidente invitó a Colombia a que salga «a votar masivamente y con entusiasmo» para demostrar al mundo «que una vez más la democracia de Colombia se hace más fuerte».

«Quiero agradecer a todos los ciudadanos que asistirán a las urnas, nuestra democracia se hace fuerte y sólida, y el triunfo de la democracia también es un triunfo sobre la violencia», concluyó el mandatario.

Duque was the first citizen to exercise his right to voteat 8:00 sharp at polling station number 1, installed in the National Capitol, located on the south side of the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá, and arrived accompanied by the first lady, María Juliana Ruiz, together with members of her team of government.

“Citizens must vote with their hands on their hearts, with a clear conscience, without pressure,” said Duque, after depositing the ballots in the ballot boxes.

The president considered that this day should be “an opportunity to reflect on the wisdom of the proposals and in which polarization and demagoguery are rejected.”

Likewise, the president invited Colombia to come out “to vote en masse and with enthusiasm” to demonstrate to the world “that once again Colombia’s democracy is becoming stronger.”

“I want to thank all the citizens who will go to the polls, our democracy is strong and solid, and the triumph of democracy is also a triumph over violence,” concluded the president.
