Ocho personas, entre ellas algunas menores de edad, siguen desaparecidas, cuando ya se cumplen dos semanas del deslave en Las Tejerías, en la zona central de Venezuela, que dejó 54 muertos y cerca de un millar de viviendas arrasadas, mientras continúa la búsqueda y avanzan los trabajos de recuperación en la zona.

El dictador venezolano Nicolás Maduro, dio el balance de víctimas, al sacar a cuatro personas de la lista de desaparecidos y sumar esa misma cantidad al récord de fallecidos. Desde entonces, el número no ha variado y, en cambio, ha sido ratificado por varias autoridades.

Mientras tanto, la dictadura venezolana mantiene un despliegue de casi 3.000 personas en la localidad, ubicada a unos 70 kilómetros de Caracas, para recuperar la vialidad, si bien ya han restituido el suministro eléctrico, de agua potable y de otros servicios como telefonía, internet y gas de uso doméstico, algunos con interrupciones puntuales.

El desbordamiento de varias quebradas el sábado pasado, producto de las lluvias, causó daños a más un millar de viviendas, cerca de 400 destruidas por completo, y afectó de varias maneras a unas 10.000 familias.

Las Tejerías fue declarada zona de catástrofe y desastre natural y ha recibido más de mil toneladas de ayuda de parte de numerosas organizaciones, entre ellas Naciones Unidas.

Las lluvias han causado en los últimos dos meses numerosos derrumbes e inundaciones en más de la mitad del país y han dejado, al menos, 25 muertos, sin contar lo sucedido en Las Tejerías.

El desastre se produjo una semana después de que se desmoronó parte de la montaña que flanquea Las Tejerías, a unos 65 kilómetros al este de El Castaño, donde se han contabilizado hasta ahora 54 fallecidos y ocho desaparecidos. Además, según cifras oficialas, en Las Tejerías 400 viviendas quedaron completamente destruidas y cerca de 800 con daños moderados a graves. También fueron dañadas escuelas primarias, un liceo y más de dos decenas de empresas.

En El Castaño casas de tres pisos quedaron cubiertas de lodo y la calle principal del barrio se convirtió en un río caudaloso por varias horas.

“No es fácil ver cómo la gente se va. Cómo las casas se van” arrastradas por una gran masa de agua y lodo, dijo a The Associated Press Emiyexi Dorante, una empleada doméstica que como muchas otras buscaba regresar a su casa luego de que las viviendas donde trabajaban fueron destruidas.

Dorante destacó que muchos se salvaron milagrosamente cuando en algunos sectores los escombros frenaron o desviaron las fuertes corrientes de agua.

“Fue la respuesta de Dios… Pronto vamos a salir de acá”, comentó Dorante mientras varios helicópteros sobrevolaban el lugar.
